Sorry for your troubles..........
Whew, got them.
So even if you have your grommets if you have that side hole open(where i stuck the screwdriver all the way in) you are in no better shape than someone without grommets.
What is in that hole normally? I know some of you are using it for fenders and other accessories but is it normally uncover for everyone else?
@Neosolidus... it's a threaded hole. I suspect it was originally intended for the belt guard but Polaris made a change to production guards....
Amazed---- I have the grommets. Think they must be the old ones- the oval one obviously doesn't move, but the round one is loose as a goose- lots of debris fell out from behind the outer collar when I spun it.
Thanks for the heads up- this was the easiest safety check to date!

what size bolt will fit in that hole?
To be fair, how many of you have modded your mods?
@Neosolidus based off casting methods and cost it is safe to assume there are cavities that allow access to the bearing area.
I can confirm that it is. It also lets contaminants into the poorly sealed needle bearing.

Same as the body bolts. M8 x 1.25.

I know it is a threaded hole but is it a hole in a solid portion of the swingarm(if that is even a thing) or a hole that's connected to the main cavity?
Once its safe to turn the compressor on i will blow air and see what shakes...... unless someone thinks that is a bad idea.
With the screwdriver that deep, I'd say it is in the cavity. No way would I use an air compressor. Vacuum would be OK to get what you can out, but if you blow air in there, I would think it would be more likely to get contaminants to the bearing or speed sensor.
I have just checked to make sure that I've got some rubbers...
^^^
The bolt hole does go all the way through. I put a stainless bolt in there.
Well here is something i was not expecting , Scott from Sport Rider Inc actually removed his grommets in order to save weight, apparently he has been running without them for a while......unless he was joking but i don't think he was.
Just asked him about the whole contaminants reaching sensor and bearings theory.
Of course I am missing mine, and 2 weeks ago went down a sand road following a wetter truck for about 5 miles. Does not feel allot of stuff in there, but know there is.
Duct tapped up for the near term....
I am safe I have rubbers whohoo
