A couple of weeks ago, a buddy of mine that's in his 80's offered to give me his 1,200 gallon storage tank. I'm thinking I'll take him up on it if he hasn't changed his mind. My wife is wondering if we can store gas instead of diesel but I believe there are permitting issues as well as the obvious safety hazard. Bill Martin I assume you put diesel and not gas in that diesel tank, amiright?

From what I understand, gas has a much shorter shelf life than diesel. I don't know if you can treat gas to make it store longer, but something worth looking into.

Yes, you have deterioration and reduction of volatility in gasoline over time. You would need additives or to use it in the same timeframe as the normal cycle through station pumps which is probably not very long. I'm really not interested in installing a bomb on my property anyway and I would think burying it (properly permitted) would not be cost effective. A bandido tank (not permitted) might bite me in the ass later. I do have 3 diesel engines (truck, tractor, excavator) so I could benefit from storing cheap diesel.
I do not know how long gas will last in storage but I have run 2 and 3 year old gas many times.

PRI-G ..... treat it and its good for a year (up to E-10) then treat it annually and as long as it's stored correctly it basically never goes bad. Was developed for DOD storage.
......
.
From my youth & farm days we had two 'red' above ground storage tanks --- had gas in one and diesel in the other...
I happen to have a buddy that has a tugboat/marsh machinery company that has a pumper truck that can haul diesel and gas. Without that -no gasoline supply company would deliver gas to a above ground tank. As much as diesel has dropped in price it would probably much safer to fill it with diesel - and not break the law😂

up this way the ministry likes to go around at the farm fall fairs and walk through the parking lots dipping the tanks of farmers pickup trucks checking for dyed diesel in the tanks.

i just dont get it, you can drive an electric vehicle and not pay road tax but the dyed diesel is a no no. I had a 2003 dodge diesel pick up and ran it for yrs on waste veggie oil and payed nothing for fuel for many many miles now with the new exhaust filters and emissions crap its harder to do.

Different tax rates.
I believe farmers don't pay road tax on the ag diesel.

In jersey.......If you get caught with off road diesel [red] on road, Its 100$ to 1'000$ dollars for ''Each'' gallon in the tank..

Depends a lot on 'local' laws for fuel storage.
Don't snakes like to hide out under those tanks?
You must watch this. I am sorry to say this but here it goes “ONLY IN AMERICA” i mean how FN stupid can you get
Maybe when they get this virus thing figured out they can work on a vaccine for stupidity

will never happen. Imagine if they did how boring it would be for us smrt people not having people to talk about
Honestly I just wish I could shove a can of Lysol up the ass of #45 & then hit him with a laser beam from a navy ship, so he can tell us if it works......
