Downshifted accidentally from 5th to 2nd running 90mph

Your not alone. I did that one time and heard the same thing you noted. No effect. Shitty shift scared the crap out of me. Pulled off the interstate just to check things over.

Yea, it tried to jump sideways before I got the clutch pushed in. Did not make any noises though. You just do not want to do that while you are on the twisties.

Luckily, I've never done that, but apparently there are many shifty characters on this forum.

I've had things come to a hault when she told me that's the wrong hole. Ruins the mood EVERYTIME.

Yep did the same thing from 5th to 2nd going around slow traffic on back road 2 lane scared me to death. My kid looked at me like what the hell dad. Doesn't seem to be any damage has been fine since. But it sounded horrible. The car I passed was Probley thinking what the hell that thing sounds horrible.

I can't say that I've ever jammed mine into the wrong slot. Now, technically speaking, it's all the same slot - just different ummm.... "stations" along the slot that the shifter can be rammed into. I suppose it's normal for mine to make a higher-pitched noise when I enter the lower station.

Can someone explain in detail how this is possible? Second gears revs out at 60mph. How/why does it allow the shifter to select this gear at speeds over 60mph?

On a different note - belt skipping is a TERRIBLE noise. I have had this happen at least a dozen times and each time, I am convinced that something broke and blew apart from the machine.

Went from 3rd into 2nd (instead of 4th) at 7k rpms ~> yep, it was an eye opener! Everything seems to be running OK though (as it happened only once while in MV).

Got to watch it though... there's always "the right time" before your stick should ever venture in!

I just wonder how many of you folks have done this and had a short shifter rather than the OEM shifter.
