My rain gear is pulling the hell over! After hydroplaning twice and almost totalling it, I DON'T do rain!

Yep, I pulled over twice on the way home from Maggie Valley last year due to heavy deluge... Still got wet!
How did you stay dry?
-
Frog toggs is what we use, we also have the F4+7 windshield plus wiper and a roof so far we stayed pretty try.
-
And going to Maggie Valley last yr from NJ on Interstate 85 in Heavy Rain going 80 mph to 65mph and SS still out of control and then 55 and still
does not feel stable and down to 40 to 45 mph and felt ok but going that slow was wondering about being rear ended going so slow
and being passed by everybody but a guy on motorcycle with side car only person I passed in the 3 hours of rain we had.
We have a F4 + 5 and was hard to see out of it and every minute or so had to wipe inside windshield just to see through windshield.
But 2 piece rain suit kept us warm and mostly dry. -
I am with @kenny_h on the rain. I have had my SS swap ends at 35mph and my foot OFF of the gas pedal...
You all can't say I didn't warn you. I know there are 100 stories about how someone drove in a pouring rain and everything was fine. But there are 20 stories where the SS has decided to go on a path of its own. Sometimes it results in plowing up a field or hitting a guard rail.
Please drop the speed down to 30 or so and find something else to do if you get caught in the rain....
-
With the frogg toggs and a full face helmet everything but my hands stay dry, unless it's really hot. PS don't use cruise control on wet pavement and slow down.
-
I agree with rabtech and slower speeds but if you are on interstates doing speeds of 30 or 40 mph and cause a accident ,
you could be the one at fault if going at these low speeds and all others are doing 50mph or over safely.
So really SS owners should pull over in any heavy rains and wait it out then to cause us harm or others who may find it
hard to see us with heavy rain and roster tail of water off the rear tire making it harder to see SS vehicle.
And I am know one to talk for I always push myself but last year with SS was a ride that had me nervous at 40 to 45mph
and yes I made it but the next ride may be my unlucky one if I continue riding in heavy rains !
Some SS owners may be lucky and others will pay the price as we will hear about them on forum. -

What tha... Cruise control? When did it get cruise control? And why? j/k -
I use two piece Frog Togs. I have been in heavy rain with them. No wet butt, no water coming up the jacket. However lots of water comes through the neck hole, even when wearing the hood(which limits peripheral vision). I just deal with the wet chest. Does anyone know of a jacket that prevents that?
F4 5+ tinted windshield....turns a lot of water over the Slingshot. Good heavy rain sometimes my shoes don't get wet....

Pull over and get the cover out and sit inside dry until it clears.

Sounds good. I could only imagine breaking mine out and it poppin' like a drag chute on a B-52... and my ass kiting across the Smokies.

You know "Trailer Trash" they go to there Truck and keep going and we have to watch out. I love the advice just pull over and wait "maybe till next year's event" we go and if it is 45 - 50 mph but we will see you all at MV. SORRY or not. Well we have around 690 miles one way so we can not wait forever or we would miss everything.
Before it gets to bad,we may stop under an overpass. -
And some of us just get a little wet!!!!!!!!!!!

So after reading the warning stories about hydroplaning incidents and the perchance of losing it fairly easy....maybe the best rain suit is none at all and then you won't be tempted to ride yourself into danger...
Thanks for the warning stories.... thought provoking info...

I have no rain suit and have been caught in the rain twice, with no bridge in sight. I pull over and just get soaked & the last time wished I at least had an umbrella lol.
