My SS started out as a base model. My dealer made all the SL upgrades. Does that legally make it an SL now? Would they or could they have done something to change it? Would Polaris recognize it as such?
SL designation

From a legal standpoint I would so NO. so from a resale value standpoint I would say no as well. It was sold as a base model S so any "mods" made do not really count. This is what I think not really what I know.
-
Does anyone know if the designation is coded in the vin number?
-
On resale for anything --- if you get 10% of the $$$.$$ you put into the mods you are doing well.
-
The 6th character in your VIN number is an "S" for the Base and a "P" for the SL - so I would say legally no
-
If it were that simple I could put Super Sport emblems on my RS camaro and sell it for an SS version. That ain't happening. Not even if you change absolutely everything that would make it what you want it to be because the serial number was born to a given model and that is all it will ever be.
-
Just make a new VIN number using a Dymo label maker. No one will ever know!
If you go to sell it, just point out all of the upgrades you did to make it like an SL wannabe, except maybe for the color or did you repaint it?
-
No new paint...it’s still very fast titanium gray..
-
Once a base always a base. It's that simple........
-
If you put a dress on a pig, is it legally still a PIG?
-
According to my dealer my SS was never titled and they made the SL upgrades before it was sold and titled so I thought maybe

Your date?
Actually, the Base model (upgraded to SL accessories or not) is NOT any more of a Pig than any other stock Slingshot.
-
So put the Lime Squeeze on it and you have a SLR LE. Bonus!

If you buy an XL pickup and put leather and carpet in it and Lariat wheels its not a Lariat its still an XL. So what would make you any difference. Dealer can change everything but the Vin. Still a base model!!!
-
what’s wrong with a base model? All models uses the same engine and transmission. I refuse to pay for a ridiculous price for an upgraded SL model that only has a “bigger wheels, backup camera and audio system.”

There is something to be said by all the niceties built into the other models. The fact that they are covered under warranty as well as having a solid part/install also makes it stick out. I think it's worth it.
-
My only worry was since mine is a base and upgraded to SL or such. It is still insured as base. Things that make you say hmmmm.

Can't believe this thread exists and I just read it...
