@Slunglow , Kevin... Very sorry for you loss. Prayers to you and you family.
It's a hard thing and I want to tell you the pain will pass but the best I can tell you is that you will also have a flood of wonderful memories. Memories that you may have lost over the years or didn't realize they held a special place. That is a gift your father will continue to give you for the rest of your life. He is not gone but always with you.
Be strong my friend. I miss my dad and I share a tear with you today.

Kevin, so sorry for the loss of your dad. While he's no longer with us, you have a lifetime of memories to remember him by. He must have been some guy to have raised such a great son. I'm sure he's proud of you, and he'll be able to recall his memories for all eternity.
Prayers for you and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Slunglow... As others have already put it so eloquently, may your father rest in peace... May your family be strong and united and not allow his passing to cause rifts in your bonds... Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, your memories are what live on...

I've been away from the forum for the last few days trying to spend every moment I could at the hospital with my family during our fathers final days. Thanks so very much for all of the sincere condolences from my loving slingshot family. The one and only thing my large crazy family could unanimously agree upon in the last several years was to not use life support to keep our beloved father with us.Luckily we were able to reach my older brother, who was chasing tuna 65 miles off the coast of New Orleans,by sat phone monday night. He made it home in time to spend about 12 hours with dad.The sheriff died peacefully in our arms with the whole family present. Thanks everyone and a special thanks to @Bill Martin for starting this thread. It helped make a hard day a lot easier.

Starting tomorrow my department will have a black band over our badges for a week in honor of a fellow sheriff. God speed my friend
