Corona Virus

  • I admit that normally I only read the business section but I can't remember the last time where hospitals couldn't keep up, morgues can't keep up, heck in NY/NJ they are using refrigerated trucks to just throw bodies in(all in the spam on 2 months).

Currently in my family I have 11 immediate and over 30 friends/extended family that have died from this and the total number really won't be known until we resume business and you start asking new people at meetings who are you and they say XYZ passed away so I am his/her replacement......as much as i hate to agree with the dems this is not a joke.

    Sorry for your loss......🙏

people are not being funny by ignoring the stay home and distancing rules....they are or could be exposing many innocent people...

  • I should also clarify - I do understand the need/desire to get things back to as close to normal as fast as possible, but with my wife's particular type of work dealing cards at a table 3 feet or less across from 6 strangers for hours on end handling their money, touching the same cards and chips - - it just seems to a much higher risk job that most others - - there is no social distancing possible, no face masks would be allowed - security cameras need to be able to see that dealers are not giving undue help to players, and also no rubber gloves - the dexterity needed to deal the cards and cut the chips wouldn't allow for it - - it just isnt something I think they could ever modify to insure my wife's ability to stay safe.

Also to add there are some very nasty / dirty people that dealers have to put up with - dont mean to sound racist, but the Chinese that often come to the casino are notorious for spitting on the floor - sure they get told not to, but from a germ point of view what good does that do. Before this it was just really disgusting - now its downright dangerous

also I am lucky enough working in a financial industry to have a job that is considered essential as such I am working and have not had any cut in pay - - this of course makes it less urgent than it may be for others

Anyway - I get it that this thing needs to get over with as fast as possible - I just want it to happen in a way where at least we can be somewhat confident that it won't come back and slap us in the face.

My wife and I have been planning to retire soon - probably next year and it would really suck to work all of this time so that we could do this only to have one of get sick and die before it happens - - Sorry if I am a selfish bastard but thats just the way I feel

I d - You are not being selfish, anymore than I am for concern for my own life. The casinos, theaters and public gathering venues should be the last venues to reopen. Just my humble opinion.

  • I live in a large rural county of appx. 30k people. It is one of 67 counties state wide. We have had 58 confirmed cases of the virus here and 4 deaths. Local news says we are recognized as being a hot spot in our state for the virus. All that being said I am not overly concerned about me getting it but I am concerned about coming in contact with it and transmitting it to my elderly mother who is not in good health. I am for getting the country back working again. Especially those jobs where a reasonable amount of social distancing can be maintained. We just have to use some common sense, do the best we can to follow the guidelines within reason and pray for the best. We absolutely cannot allow the cure to be worse than the virus itself.

Another way to look at it. How many folks will die in automobile accidents this year. No one is suggesting that we park all our cars even though past experience had showed us if we drive we can expect to have xxxxxx people killed in car accidents. Why don't we stop driving? Because it's how we survive. We know if we drive some of us are going to die but we do it anyway. In today's society we cannot live without it and we can't live without working and supporting our economy. I am not making light of anyone's loss of life. Every single person that has passed was someones reason for living and I pray for peace and comfort for every family that has been affected but if we intend to keep our country going we have to go back to work soon.

  • Ghost Thanks for the much more eloquent and reasoned post than mine have been as of late but I could not agree more - well said.

I just got back from walking the dogs and before I left I passed a mirror and saw a curmudgeon staring back at me. Somewhere somehow I lost my positivity hat about a month ago and I miss it! Only took me about three seconds to find it in the front seat of my sling.

The Mrs. and I are going to put them back on and go for an attitude adjustment ride Saturday.

We’ll get there when we get there and not a minute before. 😎

    there you go !!!

Guess we have been lucky in that regard - - The wife is actually enjoying having this time off and not having to sleep in the day so that she can work at night - - been planting things in the garden and having fun - - all I have to do is make weekly runs to home depot to get potting soil and pots

You would be surprised how much you can fit in a little chevy spark - with the back seats folded down it has become our little truck ever since we got my wife her Volvo.

    i-Fw6W9fM-X2.jpg

and I have been keeping my regular work schedule and enjoying the good weather riding the sling to and from work every day

Anyway get out for a ride and enjoy - - One thing I got reminded of big time earlier this year when we had to be evacuated away from a volcano is that tomorrow isnt guaranteed so its better to enjoy now than it is to waste it worrying about a tomorrow that might not be

  • We are a long way off from figuring out what the new normal is going to look like. Many business owners are trying to reevaluate how to stay in business because they can’t operate the way they used to. I have some ideas to try to keep my income coming in but it depends on how other businesses are going to run their operations now, if they even survive.

I saw a figure the other day. If we hit 32% unemployment that could be the major tipping point. That’s the reason they want to open as many businesses as they can. If they can’t stop that from happening it could be many years to even come close to the way it used to be. And many businesses big and small will Be lost forever. That’s why the push to save the economy quickly.

It sounds cruel but the economy is more important than lives if you don’t want to suffer a decades long backward step. We are right on the fence to becoming a third world country. Think about where you were and where you are now and where you could be. It’s a very critical turning point. They said if our economy fails the world goes with us.

  • just did the math for my city - Palm Springs

as of yesterday we have had a total of 73 cases of the coronavirus in Palm Springs proper and 8 of those 73 have died

that is almost an 11% death rate

if you take the entire Coachella Valley where Palm Springs is located the numbers get a bit better with 463 total cases and 19 deaths which is a 4.1% death rate

  • I would consider the majority of PS in the old age compromised category so their rate would be higher...look at nursing homes dropping like flies. They said 80% of people that need Ventilated die.

yes Palm Springs does have a higher than normal population of older people, but at 65 and 66 respectively my wife and I are in that group and if the death rate for the group we are in is better than 10% that is very important to know

    wouldn't you agree?

  • Also I think full blown "stay at home" orders need to be lifted - so long as social distancing can be maintained and other precautions like masks can be taken I suspect that is enough to keep most people safe if they choose to be out and about - same with businesses so long as they can maintain safe social distancing and people have masks then why not let them open - - if supermarkets are still considered okay with these measures in place why not other businesses? - now having said this I think big groups and business that can not provide social distancing for workers and guests need to continue to stay shut until they have enough information to insure the people are reasonably safe.

  • I find, at least in my area, those wearing masks are the ones not following guidelines. It is like they think it puts them in a bubble and they are in a large percentage inconsiderate of others. They walk right up to you, stand up close, don't follow the store procedures such as one way isles, put their hands all over everything. Yesterday I had to go to Walgreens for my Wife, must not have been 6 people in the store and one woman with a mask and surgical gloves walked down an otherwise empty isle, brushed up against me, then put her hand on me while saying "sorry dear" .... So I have decided from now on I won't wear a mask unless asked by the shop owner (I keep a subdued US Flag Buff in my pocket) the mask people seem to avoid me like the plaque when they see me without so it works out great.

The other thing that I see on the Fox News videos is a good many people wearing a mask only have their mouth covered like Shifty Shit Head, sorry I misspelled that, in his interview the other day

and this, in my opinion, is the biggest hurdle that needs to be overcome before things can start to get back to normal

The problem is that many people think all of these measures are only there to keep THEM safe - they don't think about the possibility that others might need to be kept safe from them.

until everyone truly believes that they could be carrying this thing and not even know it and then act accordingly maintaining safe distances and opening things up will remain much more difficult to do.

seriously - saw a lady in the market the other day - mask and gloves on and she was in the produce section picking up several of ever variety of fruit and vegetable she needed to make sure she got the one she wanted - - - absolutely zero thought that she might be spreading the virus off of her gloves to everything she was touching - - - just selfish inconsideration for anyone other than herself

people need to change their thought patterns to include thinking of others if the really want this to end as soon as possible

Send them to Somalia for a year and they will learn how to stay safe ... developed habits there that are still second nature to this day. Sometimes it drives my Wife (more) nuts.

  • The CDC said to wash your hands frequently and if your hands start to dry out and crack, apply lotion several times a day. You'd be surprised at the looks you get when you go shopping and only buy hand lotion!!! (Tripod will get that, but some of the rest of you guys will have to think back to your younger single days)
