We did it once...think how much faster it'll be without that trailer! I'm in for round two - just tell me when! I have leave to burn and people to cover for me in the office - even if I am banging away on email at 0300 and yelling at my phone screen!

Today the postman left a box on our doorstep. An 8lb 7.2oz box. The name on the return address portion of the box simply says Painter. A box that brought excitement, stole our breath, filled us with joy, even got a little tear in the eye, and a gift that we cannot say thank you enough for.
For those of you who don't know Karianne and I we live just outside of Madison Wisconsin. Karianne bought a super fast red Slingshot
last spring to replace a Harley trike that we couldn't ride comfortably after my back surgery 2 years ago. We weren't 100% certain what we had gotten ourselves into but I got my motorcycle license and we have had so much fun that we haven't tried to look back and figure it out.Right away we knew we had a winner since our Slingshot was almost the exactly same color as our local college team, the University of Wisconsin - Madison ... aka the Wisconsin Badgers. You pick the sport and our Badgers bring a badass game - football, hockey, volleyball, softball, etc. We thought we would play off the color and eventually have custom work done so we could have our Badger Slingshot!
One of the first things we did after our first week was look for a forum to get more info and ask questions. We started over at TDS but found it not to be our style with so many negative comments and moderators that were less than helpful and even members that were less than helpful. In June we found our way to what Rab built and found just the place we were looking for. Friends and mentors that we have never met or spoken to but have spent hours online sharing. Family members who we didn't grow up with nor have we ever lived together but people we trust for advice, assistance, and so much more.
We have been blown away by all the builds, updates, and modifications by the all "masters" on the forum - from the electrical upgrades to LED, to the sound system creations, to the suspension and handling fit for the racetrack, to the performance turbo and supercharger improvements, to the incredible talent of those who powder coat, airbrush, and repaint part or all of their Slingshot.
But what has really has us come back here day after day is the incredible giving and selfless spirit we have found. Any member in need. Any time day or night. If a member has a problem - there isn't just one or two guys/gals who are there to lend a hand it is darn near the entire forum. Members who offer a suggestion, donate money for a cause on the other side of the country, or even to give of their own incredible talent to a little chubby guy and gal outside of Madison Wisconsin.
Let me give you the perfect example not only of talent but of selflessness .... @Painter. This man who has more talent with paint than I could ever hope to have - this man who I am sure I have not provided an ounce of technical knowledge to - this man who we have never met - this man for no other reason than he wanted to reached out to us and simply asked what we were up to with our Slingshot. Over the interwebs we explained our Badger Slingshot dream and I swear you could hear him scurry off with the gears in his mind turning like the back wheel on your Slingshot when it deserves to be punished.
Next thing you know, the postman leaves a box on your doorstep, an 8lb 7.2oz box, a box from Jim with the most perfect surprise that you just can't express enough how thankful and honored you are.
Jim, thank you so much - your work is as talented and incredible as your heart and soul are down right admirable.

@Ross is so right about this Forum. One call, day or night, gets you a Brother or Sister. There is no "Can this wait till tomorrow" or " It will cost you this much" but simply "What can I do?"
I sent out three "gifts" Monday to fantastic Members and am trying my best on this end. As fugly valve covers that are sent back come in I work on "The List". However, I am fighting against Nature:
1. Painting the last frame tore a ligament in my left foot and I can barely walk!
2. The heater blew in the shop so the heat I have now dictates that temps are above 35 to do anything down there'!
3. Wisconsin (LOL) sent us the Polar Vortex and it was 7 degrees this morning. A waterline broke and the shop became a "Skating Ring" in about 10 minutes! The Sling is STUCK to the floor!
4. Kay's Mother passed away and it's been an awful two weeks getting her stuff organized. NOTE: This death was a blessing as she had Alzheimer's for years and was a shell the past year.
Will this stop me? Hell no but it is slowing me down a bit for sure. So... Be patient as I will reach out as I'm able.
@Painter - Jim, I know you have "Harley friends" coming (and I put that in quotes because it's NOT the same as "Slingshot family"), but what else do you need? Kerosene heaters and fuel? Supplies to replace some that were frozen? How about a walker or a cane?
Sometimes it's easy to know what's needed - a man goes down, you pick him up. Sometimes, though, when it's not so easy to see where the injury is, you have to ask....so, my friend, what do you need? How can we pick you up? You have but to say the word.
And I know you're just going to say, "I'm fine, don't worry." Folks, this is a man who gave up some of his own profits to pay for gas for a harebrained mission that he had no obligation to fund - and when rebuffed initially, he threatened to send the funds electronically regardless. Jim, you've earned the respect and admiration of everyone you've touched with your work, whether direct recipients or spectators. You've given and given and given. If there was ever a time to receive, we'very reached it.

If he won't take any help we can fill his shop with forum members and warm it with body heat.Anyone know how to calculate how many people we need to heat per square foot?

@Painter what type of furnace do you have in your shop ?
I just might have a "gently used" one of these hanging around in my shop if you need it.n old one and I took it down
I have a Reznor 120,000 BTU very similar looking to yours Kevin. It's an old one and I took it down in the Spring to clean and check it. I also have 2 - 50,000 BTU hangers that are now junk!
However, one of our motorcycle club members owns a HVAC store and he is going to set me up with a 210,000 BTU Hanger for his cost and install it for me. Going to remodel a bit with a new ceiling before install as all the small parts I can paint in the shop's cross draft. The large paint booth I have up town costs about $100 a day to run!
@KayTwo I'm fine! LOL! I have a 120,000 kerosene torpedo I am running to thaw out and clean up the mess tomorrow. I'd be bored to death if I didn't have these little setbacks to keep me busy!

Well @MACAWS there are quite a few variables to that equation...
I learned at an early age it's very important to know just how big the friends are that are volunteering to help you out in a "pinch".
