What was today's Sling project-Mods , goodies....?

  • I haven't been on a plane since December of last year but I'm gonna have to fly out for that one! Best of luck with your search. Real estate prices are through the roof out here. It's like no one remembers history. Good time to sell - tough to buy.

I’ll have a bottle & cigar waitin on ya. Imma learning about this mountain real estate. It’s hard to find something that checks off all the boxes. Long range view, flat parking area are fairly easy - but I’ll be damn if Imma spend $500k in a house and can’t stream Netflix - NO INTERNET!! I may have to come down the mountain to get what we want but jeez the riding and view are always minutes away!!

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

or you could move this way. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

  • a little wet sanding and buffing and they're ready to cast molds for the new Plus 1 Quad kits

I,m thinking a single rear fender too, probably wouldn't take much modifying . I asked Hodge today if he wanted me to pull a left from the new mold and bring it over to see what we could fit up on his Slingshot and he thought he was more interested in three , WTH

We have used Hughes Net satellite for internet for the last 4+ years. It's not the speediest but it works. Coincidentally, we just set up Netflix last night on our newer smarty-pants TV. It seems to be working well but time will tell. We tried Netflix before and it failed but maybe we didn't have it set up or configured properly. We plan to add Hulu and whatever else we can find cheap and if we get enough content to satisfy our modest appetite we'll drop DISH TV.

This stuff is a bit confusing to this old dog. I remember watching Batman after school on our old black & white back in the 60's and getting really excited when it came out with the peacock and the announcement "In Living Color" at the beginning of the show. I remember being disappointed and was not impressed with this improvement. It was probably a couple years later when my Dad brought a new TV set home, plugged it in and BAM!, color TV! It was then that I realized it took a color TV set to get color TV. A bit slow on the uptake I'd say. But as the younger brother I was really good at jumping up, crossing the room and changing the channel among 2, 6, 8, 12 and eventually 10 (OPB).

  • Kinduva long range SS project going on. We have been scouring the Blue Ridge Mountains in SW NC for a house. We have narrowed it down now to the Waynesville -Maggie Valley area. Was there yesterday with the leaves changing and 100’s of bikes buzzing around enjoying the cool fall weather. If everything goes according to my plan there will be one helluva SS house warming party come next years Maggie Valley Rally. Talk about stockin up on fine Kentucky bourbon (plus now moonshine) plus good cigars - details in the works....:00008235:

I can't wait. That will put you a stones throw from me. Great riding all over this place. That's for sure.

My girlfriend loves SS more than me but can't drive a manual laugh-squaredlaugh-squared Lucky me!!!

  • We went around 2 years in the early 1960s w/o a TV before my Mother's Mom finally got her a small portable B&W TV. Mom went and bought a piece of multi-colored cellophane that was supposed to add color to a B&W TV and she was disappointed when it simply placed different colored stripes across the TV screen!

Bill, look in the area for wireless ISPs. I'm far enough in the boondocks that is the only real internet I can get (satellite based isn't fast enough for my work, nor the latency)

I have 80mbps with an antennae up on a tower. You have a modem/firewall just like any other ISP. If you need help or details on it, ping me.

Sone of the places I’ve looked at only Hughes Net satellite is available and I’ve always heard that was crap - but thanks for the tip!!

It sounds like wokka has a technical edge on me but I make a mean Jambalaya! Bill Martin I'm not going to sing the praises of Hughes Net but I will say that my wife has been working from home this year doing daily zoom meetings and it has worked for that. And of course it gets me on this forum which is extremely important to at least one member here (me).

Maybe it has improved from what it used to be - I’ll check it out - I just can’t have my bride upset

The two biggest problems with Hughes or any other satellite provider is the latency (time it takes the data to get up to the satellite and then back to Earth), which is typically 10 times longer than cable/dsl type connections. The other problem is the limited bandwidth. This has gotten better in the last few years, but they still have pretty low data caps, so things are good until you hit that, then they slow you down to old dial-up speeds.

One computer, phone or tablet downloading an OS update will suddenly eat up a lot of your data, on top of video streaming on something like Netflix, and the last 10 days of the month you are throttled.

I made the offer to Bill, but if anyone has questions, let me know.

  • I had Hughesnet for years - it sucked big time couldn't stream video - couldn't watch porn. switched to a local Viastat - now I can watch things like Netflix! Speed is incredible.

I have fiber at my cabin even better
