185 MPH AND 914 MB PRESSURE. NO sign of weakening at 0600 today.
Yep. I stand corrected. Weather service now says 190+ might be possible.

Just a few pictures from Hurricane Hugo in Charleston, SC. I will never do it again. CAT3 or higher and I will be leaving town.
The container crane was lashed to the dock and was blown over, the other crane was a stiff leg 300 ton crane that was facing the other direction out over the water before the winds blew it back onto the dock. Port of Charleston, S.C.
Notice the trees. They are all snapped in two. Total destruction. And these pictures were taken several days after the storm ended.

Sat thru Hurricane Frederic in '79. Cat 3/4. No power for 5+ weeks afterwards, no running water for 6+ weeks- other than my hand pump. After my kid was born- one of the main reasons I left the Gulf coast. The weather is the reason I cannot bring myself to move back to ya'lls neck of the woods. I will never sit thru another one of those storms again.
Please- leave if you can, God be with you if you need to hunker down and stay.
Please stay all safe, I know we are far away from you guys and girls but our doors are open also.

This is one time I would have gladly been wrong bro - really a scary storm !!

Dieter, if their predictions are correct, the 185 mph winds might blow us up there (to PA), so keep an eye out for us flying by
@Spudinator, I am still with an aunt in Kansas. Will head out next week and be in San Antonio the 19th for Air Force graduation. Thanks for asking!
I remember hunkering down during hurricane Andrew to ride out that storm (I swear, it was the scariest time... half of our house was being destroyed with us inside trapped). Irma is looking to be more catastrophic than Andrew... so it's time be proactive and GET OUT!
I'm friends with a franchise owner at UNITS here in Charlotte. If anyone needs help packing up their stuff, just PM me and I'll connect you (he's a stand-up and honest guy)... I say this because I still have friends in Kendall where I used to live and they have told me that some of the moving folks are price gouging ~> taking advantage of the impending situation.
Just think of all the roofer scams after Andrew... I'd hate to see any of my family here go through that.

Glad to hear it Anita. Headed down to Isla Blanca on the 15th if you want to came south from there. South Padre escaped the wrath of Harvey.
On another note it seems some of the projections are pushing Irma further East and our forecaster said Florida is still in the path but the Carolinas have to be on more of an alert now.
Well,
We have food
We have water
We will have the option of emergency power if we really need it.
We have propane, charcoal, grills, turkey fryers.
Vehicles, Houses all have full coverage insurance
I'm staying put and enjoying the cool breeze.
And with my supply of AR's, AK's, Tavor, Kriss, S&W, Ruger
I will keep all the above safe and secure.
I just can't get over how massive and dense this storm is... beautiful and frightening at the same time!
Had a gf like that once - massive & dense...

SWEET ~> my ex bf was also M & D!
*in all the right spots...
Well, whatever Irma does, I decided to hunker down and ride it out. As long as my house does not blow away I should be ok. Got the generator ready. Have water and 50+ gallons of gas. Probably gonna go pick up a fresh keg for the kegerator as well!
All of my vehicles have full coverage and all the contents of my house are insured for $250k. I owe less than $25k on my house. It's now worth over 3.5 times what I paid for it in 2011 when the market was rock bottom. Hmmmm maybe Irma is not gonna be that bad after all... 4 totalled vehicles, everything inside my house gone, house destroyed....CHA-CHING!!!
Sounds like early retirement to me.
Any new predictions on the storm path?

Still not definitive but sure looks like a Florida direct hit
