The problem is the "cone of possibility" is showing the entire state as being a possible track of the storm. So where the hell do you go? Still too early to pack the bags and head for the hills. But if it's going to be a direct hit near us, we're heading out. probably try to find some casino that has room available. I'm sure they'll have back-up power sources, food and water
Which ever side of Florida it goes up...it's so big the entire state is covered anyway..
Run for your lives...

Apparently you have never experienced a hurricane .....
The extreme wind event is relatively concentrated ..... 20 miles one way or the other can make a big difference ......
We have tropical storm force wind and rain here regularly this time of year ... which is what most of the state might get ...
For perspective, last year Matthew was a CAT 4 and the eye-wall passed 10 miles off our coast, we are 8 miles inland of the barrier island, and had low CAT 1 conditions
In 2004/05 we had three storms pass over our house. With two CAT 2 storms the eye passed directly over so we had the highest winds in both directions. Damaged our roof but 10 miles South they barely had tree damage. It also matters a lot where you are in relation to the center of the storm.

Please notice who you are talking to, sorry talking at. You will never get common sense through to him. He thinks a small wind storm is catastrophic.Sent from my SM-G955U using Polaris Slingshot Forum mobile app

No I haven't experienced a hurricane. Its got to be horrific. My prayers go out to all that suffer from that. I merely was touching base on the flood waters. As I just a few weeks ago had to deal with from the Fox River up north in Illinois sand bagging our home there.

All I can say is that I'm NOT a nervous Nelly type at all. But this fucking storm has my attention. Right now it has 185 mph winds and they just said the pressure has dropped a little which usually means an increase in wind speeds. They're talking about 190 mph since it might not get a direct hit to the islands. But the nastiest of all information is when they said to expect wind gusts to easily exceed 200 mph. That's not something I want to hang out here at witness first hand.
With the course of the hurricane still to be determined, where are you supposed to go? I made my decision tonight. I'm going to bed and hope when I wake up it's all been a dream. I've had wet dreams before, but nothing like this

I read an article today that if it hits the warm water of the Florida straits it will fuel it to winds of possibly 225 mph. I cannot even imagine that kind of destructive power

It looks like it's going to be like a redneck marriage. Starts off with a lot of blowing, then you lose the house

Well, whatever Irma does, I decided to hunker down and ride it out. As long as my house does not blow away I should be ok. Got the generator ready. Have water and 50+ gallons of gas. Probably gonna go pick up a fresh keg for the kegerator as well!
All of my vehicles have full coverage and all the contents of my house are insured for $250k. I owe less than $25k on my house. It's now worth over 3.5 times what I paid for it in 2011 when the market was rock bottom. Hmmmm maybe Irma is not gonna be that bad after all... 4 totalled vehicles, everything inside my house gone, house destroyed....CHA-CHING!!!

Watching this storm because lots of Florida family and friends. Please stay safe! I'd be running for the hills.

No question 185 mph at one point, but NOAA just reported 175 and dropping.
Had an awesome phone call at work this afternoon with all of the reserve units in the region discussing what they are doing to prepare. The unit in Puerto Rico is really battening down the hatches. Same with Miami.185 MPH AND 914 MB PRESSURE. NO sign of weakening at 0600 today.
