We in Nova Scotia just do not see weather like Gulf folks so often have to deal with. I guess that is good for us, certainly not so good for them. Hang on!! Be safe.

this morning walking the dogs saw that the Bayou receded some. It's started raining again before we got home and the Bayou is rising quickly

-
@DKF Texas Dana- I understand your reasons for staying where you are- saying a prayer for you, and hoping like hell that you have a back-up plan B-- which includes a spot for the dogs!

When we closed on our house here in Spring, TX back in April 2009, we had a heavy rainstorm and the bridge in the center of our community flooded. The bridge surface is probably around 18 ft above the normal creek bed and for our house to be threatened by the creek, the creek would probably have to rise to about 30+ ft above normal levels, something that has never occurred and hopefully never will. After the 2009 flooding, Harris County Flood Control widened the creek for better flow and we've had no problems since. This afternoon, I went out and found the bridge flooded. I tried a different route and the bridge in that direction was flooded even worse. I then tried a third route that crossed the same creek a little upstream of the first bridge and was able to cross the creek. About an hour later, it looked like the water had dropped and the bridge should be clear soon.
Since Friday night, I've pumped around 30" of water out of my pool during 7 sessions to keep the pool from overflowing and draining towards our house. I had wanted to do it earlier, but we lost power for about 2-1/2 hrs. Fortunately, our house is on the same side of the street as a local water company pump station, so our block/side of the street has priority for power restoration. Neighbors across the street told us during Hurricane Ike in 2008, they lost power for about 2 weeks, but our side of the street had power back in a day or so. Looks like we lucked out when we bought this place.
I'm in the middle of installing a Hahn turbo and have a cover on my Slingshot to protect from horizontal rain coming into the carport. A stray cat we started feeding has decided that my engine compartment is the perfect refuge during the rains. Hopefully he hasn't caused any problems. At least he feels safe.I told my Wife about this post and she said at least the cat was getting to use my Slingshot!

I am so sad to see this
Cajun Navy says looters attempted to steal boats, fired shots at them

Yep. They were showing looters in Houston also. They should legalize open season on looters...
-
That is just disgusting that another human would even consider stealing from someone going through such a devastating situation.

.
Saw one of the TX congressmen say :
"Texans are resilient, when a storm is on the way we stock up on food, water, and ammo..."
If its a declared disaster we can shoot 'em in FL ... would think TX is the same ....

Bill how are you and Angie doing as this approaches your area?

Look on web at pics of hobby airport. You will not believe
-
I just can't believe it - when the thugs in New Orleans shot at rescuers I was disgusted. Did not think that would happen again in Houston. If they cut the coonasses loose they will go home with several of these animals strapped to the hood. This is one instance where court should be convened in the street and punishment dealt accordingly. Signed

Still in Dallas but flooding surrounding Lake Charles is getting pretty bad. Worst is still yet to come so all we can do is wait for the water to crest then hopefully recede quickly. Think we are gonna be OK - the poor folks in Houston and southward are looking at years long recovery...
