Better Battery...

How many of you are using a battery tender when not driving your SS? Mine sits most every week day and only gets out to play on the nice weekends. Is it best to not have a charger hooked up all the time? I've always used a Harley battery tender on all of my motorcycles with very few battery problems.

@MWSlingshot, mine rarely sits more than 4 days but I use a battery tender if it is going to be sitting that long.
-
@MWSlingshot I changed my battery over to an Optima. I don't worry about it sitting for a week without putting it on charge. But it's getting to the time of year that it will be more rare getting it out likely I have the Harley trickle charger, and bought the reverse plug to go in between the seats. It worked well for me all last winter.

I'm going to install the plug on my battery this weekend and start tendering it, thanks

@Goats_Hogs, what are those called. Started to get one last winter but forgot about it. Can't seem to find anything on Amazon.

I got mine from Amazon. It's like this one, may be the same for all I know.

I only put my Sling on the maintainer over winter, and plug it into the same receptacle as you. My Sling doesn't sit long enough to worry about during the summer.
I have a bench full of those maintainers for all my 12 volt batteries. -
I actually think I got the battery tender jr. for mine. I had 3 tenders, but let one of them go with the bike when I sold it. My Sling doesn't sit much either @roadog1aj, 2016.5 with 26k on it.

Why? Just plug it in between the seats in the Assy. plug. They even sell the plug if you do not want to make one up.

Just an FYI. If you use Amazon Smile instead of the regular Amazon app a portion of every purchase goes to the charity of your choice. No difference in cost.

Update for those with a 2016.5 Slingshot. I just purchased an Optima battery to replace the smaller battery. When I called Slingmods to order the battery mount they let me know that tricled is no longer making the mount to fit the 2016.5 model year slingshots. I had to purchase one from Slingshotonly who still sells them.

I am used to speaking with Brandon when I call slingmods who has provided excellent service from the days when they only had 4 items for sale. Today's conversation, which was not with Brandon, left me not wanting to call them back. I got a lecture on how the slingshot was not a high demand produced vehicle and how vendors will not tend to cater to Polaris every time there is a change. I kind of stopped the conversation at that point being the new guy to the slingshot world.........bad move on their part. I have always championed them as a vendor. Thanks for the conversation, I feel better now.

Hey @Slingrazor
Our sincere apologies if we sounded as though we were lecturing…We would never want that to be the case, as we are only looking to inform. While on the phone, we just wanted you to know that the 2017 tray that you were trying to order would not be compatible with your 2016.5 model (at least the TricLED one we carry). We would hate for you to have ordered, and been upset when it arrived and did not fit your Slingshot.
The TricLED 2016 trays are not discontinued, but on a large backorder as they are in the process of making more. As there is no current ETA, we stated that these were on a sort of “hiatus” until we can nail down that ETA.
As soon as we have more in stock and available we will put them back up on the website. Again, our sincere apologies…If there is anything you need, feel free to let us know.Hope you have a great weekend!
