So man folks get distracted and leave the gas cap on top of pump or back of Slings and drive off. Here is a solution that will protect you from that if you never sit it down and follow the steps in the video. If you forget to screw it on, it will be in it's storage location when you get home. Snazzy had this system and it worked for 2 years, Snazzy 2 now has it and I know it will work.

Good idea..wonder if anybody has given thought to attaching it to the neck with a short wire cable like some cars have.

Just a week ago Sunday, I messed up. I got distracted at the pump. It was early, we were heading out for a long all day ride on only two lane roads and some very narrow but cool back roads.... 360 miles that day. I always put the cap forward of the fill hole. I kept smelling gas, unusual for my SS. I had turned at 3 corners, and ridden 11 miles when something hit my right arm. It was the gas cap. It had ridden with us on the back deck for the entire time! I was lucky for sure. I've been considering upgrading the cap, and if I do I will keep the stock one in the SS somewhere just in case. Great idea Sam!
Like @Flybuddy said, it would be easier if the cap had an attachment of sorts. A plastic cord with a T that fit into the neck that allowed putting the cap to the side but still being attached to the SS would work.

Great idea Sam. Does your mind ever rest?

@adventure4me, Anita has a cool little cable...

Painter gave me a pretty red cap that I lay in the seat for now. My old cap - a friend drilled a hole in the center and attached a small fabric dog collar to it with a screw. He attached with a zip tie through holes in the black 'fin' under the roll bar. Lanny has my old cap because he lost his in Maggie Valley.

Yes! I have done that, now I put the cap in the drivers seat.

We all need to tip our "caps" to Sam.

Always put it in the seat, easy to remember when you sit on it. Plus I have a locking cap so I leave the key in it, can't fire it up without the key.

That's not a keyhole.

It is if you sit on your gas cap with the key in it...

I think Tripod has an xray that might concern you.

I did the velcro tip for my first mod. Then for my second cap I went this route

Put the key for it on the ring for the ignition and problem solved. Fits a little tight at first but loosens up about the forth fill up.

Good opportunity for parts makers... Calling @Ruptured Duck
I'd like something like this to replace the removable cap.
An integrated hinged door/cap that can not be lost.
