Display MoreI would bet that many people add all kinds of mods that are not legal - -did you actually check the code to see if all of your lights are legal?
I happened to actually check the code on aftermarket lights here in California - they literally have a section that says NO aftermarket light can be added within 12 inches of any legally required light
I would bet most Californians dont know that - I even saw slingshots at the show in Fallbrook last year having all kinds of LED's installed that violate this section of the law.
As to politicians - I dont give them credit at all - in fact I think you could throw the dead body of a victim of a slingshot accident on their front steps and unless the kid was the son of a big time contributor or a direct family member I suspect they wouldn't even notice. Under any normal conditions no politician is going to give anything more than lip service to an issue that doesnt personal benefit them unless the public outcry gets so intense that they have no choice - - as small as the number of Slingshots are in any given state I just dont see that as even being possible - we would all have to start running people down to get that kind of attention
Texas got to experience the power of a "concerned" politician when Polaris was ready to start shipping Slingshots to Texas in 2014. I went to the Texas House and Senate hearings about how the Slingshot should be licensed and heard the story that the head of the Texas Senate Transportation Committee had a constituent (friend or supporter, presumably) complain about the Slingshot being labeled a motorcycle and then insisted the Slingshot not be sold until legislation reclassified the Slingshot as an Autocycle even though the House Transportation Committee and the DMV reportedly wanted to allow sales to start in 2014 as originally approved and change the classification during the 2015 legislative session. Instead of getting my Slingshot in late 2014 (deposit placed with dealer in August 2014), sales weren't allowed until the end of May 2015, IIRC, and I finally got my Slingshot in june 2015. In the meantime, Oklahoma dealers ( and, I assume dealers in other states surrounding Texas) sold Slingshots to Texas residents and renewed their temporary tags until Texas go its act together.
