Can anyone blow up that front wheel assembly by the curb. I was trying to see where it separated from the frame. The close up in the video is a good detail shot.
-
Sucks for sure, But ya don't know what was actually happening. If it was the "Bump" in road-LAW SUIT! If it was racing-stupidity? Never know there's always more to a story.....Either way, sucks someone died

21-Year-Old Man Killed in Sun Valley Crash Involving 3-Wheeled Motorcycles | KTLA
According to this article it was a 2016 slingshot the other slingshot that was involved appears to be fine and no damage..

Thanks @Tripod I had missed that other close up in the video. The assy. separated at the ball joints, upper and the lower.
-
Not too much of the wheel left either.
-
Look at the way that freaking wheel broke. It's a 2016 per @slingmods link. If I remember correctly, Polaris went to cast wheels in 2016 vs. forged like the 2015's. Just an observation...

This is what I'm talking about... Are these tested to hit a bump going at a certain speed? I remember just reading/hearing about wheels breaking... But then the arms and assembly?
Lawsuit against Polaris or not possible? Granted there haven't been many attributed to deaths, but auto manufacturers are hit frequently with lawsuits due to faulty or substandard equipment, no?

Lawsuit against Polaris or not possible? Granted there haven't been many attributed to deaths, but auto manufacturers are hit frequently with lawsuits due to faulty or substandard equipment, no?
Why are you assuming faulty equipment?

My guess is they will try for a lawsuit, but I'd put money down that the driver wasn't doing 35 (mostly because I haven't met anyone yet that does 35 unless there's a cop or they are behind someone). That'll make it harder on the lawsuit.
Anybody want to take bets on the next recall????

@Ross.... See @sideseatdrivers post... And Polaris' track record...
Aren't there already members who experienced that the ball joints are crap?
-
Ok thanks I wasn't sure if I missed something reported.

Know someone in person who ate a tree at 50 mph, and he and his wife walked walked away. Slingshots can be very safe if you drive with safety in mind.
Keep in mind there is an old thread on the dark side about exploding wheels. The dude turned out to be blasted at the time, and stopped posting. The law took an interest.
Another event a wife was lost, due to no seatbelts and alcohol. The law took an interest.
One post on this thread, which I cannot personally verify, suggests the driver was ejected. Sounds to me like no seatbelt - a very bad idea.
Big fan of alcohol, but you have to be thoughtful before hitting the start button. Or, at least, have good friends that say: no way dude - couch for you.
Years ago, I hung with some Harley riders who did bad things. Very, very bad things, with sometimes very, very bad consequences. Yet, nobody blamed HD. Let's give Polaris a break, unless there is more clear data.
-
Read on another forum it started from a dip in the road which caused this slingshot to fishtail, the Front Right wheel broke off then causing the slingshot to roll and in process the driver was ejected.. Very sad.. One of our local riders..
I want to hit Like, but just can't bring myself to it.
Sorry for your loss in your Sling community
-
No way all that damage was done at 35mph.

I agree... Just worried because I feel I drive very hard and don't want a wheel to break or snap or something else and then I'm gone...
Need life insurance first if my wife won't be able to sue...
-
35 or 105 the sling should be able to take a bump in the road without a wheel assembly disintegrating

Had both upper ball joints replaced. Lower right, they couldn't get out, so I got a new control arm.
Now, 6 months later, the symptoms have returned. Ball joints seem to be made of fairy dust and urine. Not happy about that.
Making best effort to not cuss like a sailor. Thanks for bringing that up.
