Any time going to pick up a new bike includes going by Academy Sports to purchase rain gear it is going to be a long ride!
When we left home this morning we had no idea if it would even arrive today since it had been postponed a couple times already. Therefore I didn't even think of taking any gear along. Once we finished with the errands, meetings and business we had set out to do I gave the dealer a call and found out that it had arrived. Since we were no where near home at the time it was not convenient to run home and get said gear. On the way to the dealer we looked at the radar and it didn't look good at all. That is when the idea to go by Academy was hatched. Looking back it was a darn good idea! I won't go into all the details of the trip home save for one small story. I'll save the rest of it for another day.
I had informed the dealer that I had not brought a helmet and would not be leaving with one. He said to suit myself but that I could not test ride it without a helmet. I told him that I had them before and that a test ride would not be necessary and that once the money changed hands it would no longer be the dealerships problem.
Fast forward to heading home. As I left the dealership and headed home I believe I made it to the 5th stop light before a Sheriff's Department SUV pulled up beside me. I was sitting just forward of him enough that I could not look over and make eye contact without looking backwards. I was expecting for him to get on his loud speaker and have me pull over as soon as the light changed but he didn't. Guess he was in a hurry to get home! LOL Glad he was hungry!!
She is now sitting comfortably at home in the shop dripping dry and awaiting her first wash job.
My last rain story included a ride that would have normally been 4-4.5 hours well I was forced to spend an extra night in a hotel when I was over halfway home. I was frozen (yes I live in Florida) and soaked from head to toe. I couldn't feel my fingertips. When I signed into the hotel my wife had to sign the reciept for me as I was numb. Well the next day when I finished the journey with a cold and sick as a dog my wife showed me the radar and told me we had driven through a tropical depression, nothing compared to my depression. Well here is the weather map for that rain special. Yes the orange cloud followed us the whole way from Miami to Seabring FL. First time I've ever given up while riding but the two times I scared my wife to death with the hydroplane was enough for her and she was also ready to stop for a while.
Next morning she said you sure are a great driver.
following pictures are from date night before the rain and next photo is during the crazy rain day.
