Hey all. I know that periodically we find someone with a need and do a little collection to help others. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in the forum adopting a family in need -- kind of like last year, only a little more official. My idea would be for people to nominate families (no names, just tell the reason you are nominating them) until November 11th, then open voting until Nov 18th. Donations would be taken at any point, and transferred to the person closest to the winner for Christmas present purchase or gift card purchase (whichever would be better for the situation). Donations would close December 16th-ish. What do you guys think?
If anyone is up for it, I will make the first nomination. We have a young Sheriff's deputy with four kids who happens to be a reservist. While he was deployed, his wife decided to drink and drive, and wound up killing someone. She is likely heading to jail after her court appearance (no sympathy for her). In the meantime, the deputy is struggling to make ends meet for their home and the kids, and is not able to do anything other than make the basic bill payments -- as in, not able to splurge on Thanksgiving meals, etc. He is too proud to ask for help, but needs it all the same.
