For some reason, I was thinking the drive belt was supposed to be replaced at 50,000 miles, but then I noticed the 2015 Slingshot Owner's Manual calls for drive belt Inspections thru 150,000 miles. Just wondering what life folks were getting from the drive belt?
Who has replaced a drive belt? At what mileage? Why?

It would depend on the condition if it’s cracked or other visable damage. Kinda like fan belts. Keep looking at them and if it’s bad it’s bad.
I just bought a 2000 van with 115,000 miles on it and all the hoses look original.

Mine has been changed once. My tech at the dealer had things apart and didn't like the looks of it and changed it under warrantee. What he told me was they generally last very well. I just got a bad one. ON a side note...had a new alternator put in a car a week ago (new one) and it was BAD … changed the nest day.

I have replaced a handful of Polaris drive belts on ATVs - always due to damage caused by improper use of the centrifugal clutch. Without a clutch system that can smoke the belt, I would expect the SS belt to last nearly indefinitely. I could see it perhaps stretching beyond the ability to adjust it properly over time, but if FunCycle is still on the original, we should all see similar results barring any catastrophic failure.

After I started the thread, I realized my mistake. I don't know how many miles rabtech has on his Slingshot now, but I figure at the power levels he runs, the belt has experienced more stress than most belts would typically see.

They recommend checking the belt tension when the SS is cold. So there are changes happening during the drive. It’s heating and cooling causing expansion and contraction regularly. Not counting winter and summer. Throw in stretching from gassing it up and the belt is getting a pretty good workout. It’s good to hear they can take a good pounding...
If you’re like the rest of people driving....nobody ever changes anything until it’s worn out or breaks...

With all of the Slingshots we have worked on, we have only seen 1 belt failure and that was due to an aftermarket rear sprocket with the incorrect geometry for the belt, which caused damage to the belt and led to the failure.
I would agree with Polaris, the rear belt should last quite a while.

With the power @rabtech's putting down, I'd say his 32K miles is the same as others 60-90K miles. Bodes well for expected belt life.

I had mine replaced under warranty when they did the swing arm recall. Tech saw a few teeth that were cracked and Polaris said to change it out. Who am I to argue with that?
