Display MoreWe have a new service dog at our house - his name is Parker and he is a Labradane. Neighbors purchased him as a pup with the brilliant idea that he should be left unsupervised on the porch when everyone was at work or school. Meanwhile over at our place, people talk to and play with their dogs - that looks like lots more fun! Parker became a regular visitor to our front porch - and that was A-okay, he was a very friendly pup. What we didn't know is that this *full size* 70 lb dog was just 6 mo old.. and still in the chewing phase. He chewed on the porch furniture, and then on the house door frame!
Kept taking him back to the neighbors and saying "Please fix this!" Their answer was to chain him to a clothesline and feed him once a day - otherwise, no human contact. He could see our field, would bark, then howl, then cry everytime we saw him. Finally went over to the neighbor and said "You need to sell me your dog." Gave him some cash and took home a treasure! Seems the neighbor had no idea how to train big dogs and Parker was knocking his 3 youngsters about rough housing.
I've been training Parker for a couple weeks and he goes to work with me at the University 4 days a week now. He is doing really well and has all the kids petting and fussing over him. LoL! We've had him fixed and vaxed, and we're feeding him up a bit. At 11 months, he is now approaching 90 lbs and is over 30 inches at the shoulder - we expect him to keep growing for another 6 months to a year. He's going to be a BIG boy!
Such a lovely dog, friendly to all, just don't mess with mama (The Captain), he doesn't like that at all!
congratulations on your new best friend! What a blessing U2 are!!
