Oil Cooler Kit

  • We are very happy to release our DDMWorks oil cooler and filter relocation kit. We have been testing this setup for a long time now and it is now available.

The DDMWorks Oil cooler and filter relocation kit is a great addition for those that drive their Slingshot hard or have added a Supercharger or Turbo. We have specifically designed this kit to be a plug and play install on the Polaris Slingshot to give protection from high oil temperatures found in boosted or hard driven Slingshots.

The full plug and play kit is $795, but through 11-28-16 it is on sale for only $695

When you drive your Slingshot hard, the oil temperatures will start to climb and if you have added a Supercharger or Turbo those temperatures only get hotter. As the engine oil starts to heat up it will start to breakdown and not provide as much protection to the engine and can start to lead to failures. Our kit is designed to fight higher temperatures in a couple of ways.

The unique oil filter we designed fits in the place of the stock oil filter and cap allows large -10AN hose to be routed to an external oil cooler and filter. The oil cooler is mounted with a stainless steel bracket on the drivers side of the engine bay that allows air exiting the engine bay to flow through the cooler to take away heat from the oil. Then the oil is sent to a larger oversized oil filter that provides more surface area than the stock filter, providing longer filter life and less pressure loss across the filter than stock.

All of the extra parts in the system also increase the oil capacity of the oil system by an amazing 2 quarts. With the larger amount of oil in the system, it takes longer for the oil to increase its temperature, providing more protection.

If you drive your Slingshot hard, this kit is a simple plug and play solution to give your engine protection from high oil temperatures.

    The kit it comes with:

    • DDMWorks Billet Oil Filter Adapter
    • DDMWorks Billet Filter remote base with threaded adapter
    • Stainless steel mounting bracket for filter remote (optional black powder coat)
    • High Performance Oil Cooler
    • Stainless steel Oil cooler mount (optional black powder coat)
    • -10 AN Braided Stainless Steel oil filter line
    • -10 AN Braided Stainless Steel oil cooler line
    • -10 AN Braided Stainless Steel adapter line
    • Stainless steel hardware required for installation
    • Full Color instructions

  • They had to use a Sling with green hoses... ;(

I think you need those hood supports as well in green ... if you don't already have them

  • @Dave@DDMWorks, I know you are a numbers guy along with being into performance, so I thought maybe you can share oil temperature information with and without the oil cooler, oil temps entering and exiting the cooler, high oil temperatures reached, NA, supercharged, turbocharged, etc. I suspect turbocharged to reach the highest temps. High oil temps breakdown the oil and its characteristics which in turn damage engine components but there is an optimal oil temperature also and the inherent risks of not reaching this temperature.

This is in no way to raise question whether there is a need for your system, but rather some conversation to educate forum members by someone that is well respected.

    Thanks

  • On a stock engine for normal road usage, its not necessary.

If you have a turbo, its a good idea to have one to offset the added heat put into the system from the turbo heating the oil.

If you race your SS, its a must.

  • I would have had this kit on and done, however I ran into a issue with the adapter. Has anyone else had this problem. The adapter is suppose to stop so the fittings to the hoses are at 12 and 6 o'clock in conjunction to the rear of the motor. Mine went past that so the fittings are 10 and 4 o'clock. Sent a email to Dave.

  • I think there is supposed to be some sort of adjuster or spacer below the Adapter

There are shims that they use (real thin washers) if it does not clock correctly.

I did get two spacers or shims. I didn't see anything that said where to put them. I did mention that to Dave. Maybe this will save other people some grief. Thanks gentleman I have everything thing else in place.

  • I went a little different route with the oil cooler kit. It is not complete because I am waiting on shims at this point because my adapter is clocked 180 deg out which means the pressure and return lines are reversed.
I installed a different oil cooler, oil filter adapter and cut my own lines to fit.
As you can see my oil cooler fits under the head lights and the filter is located forward of the left wheel to put it in the airflow and make it easier to change.
This location provides a good airflow and doesn't impede the radiator or inter cooler.
I also like the fact it is out of the way.

I like that set up - very good idea.
