Not sure as to what you are referring to...
Ribs between the plate?
Or holes in brake material to rivet backing plate. Dust, sand collection points?

See the amount of shiny on the rotor vs the rust area? Pad appears to only be contacting half surface of rotor. Back side is not like this

I have seen this before when we installed the new Hawk 5.0 pads except on this Sling the rust band was right in the middle of the rotor and about 3/8 inch wide. On this Sling there maybe only 5,000 miles since install, I need to look to see if it is worn in yet.

You have to step on the break peddle at least once a week for them to show any wear...

It is not my Sling, it is Terry's.

Perhaps look to see if the pad broke apart. You are correct in that it looks like you are only contacting half the surface.

These look to be like what they call hotspots as well.
If you are not comfortable in removing the rear wheel and looking at the brake rotor the best way to do this is to take it to the shop. The consequences are two great if this is not addressed.

Missed that... thanks.
Pistons are inboard and static shoes outboard.
Caliper slide pins binding, rusted.
Pull the slide pins, clean...
Inspect boots.
Inspect pads. If high angle wear, replace.

thanks for input guys. I will be putting a new tire on in a few days. I will check the brake then

does the other side of the rotor look the same?

I finally got a chance to pull the brake off and check it out. The upper portion of one pad had broken apart. Dave@DDMWorks any chance my hawk pads shipped on Monday in hopes that it may come tomorrow? 😁 I am going to TN Friday morning. If not, I will go to auto parts tomorrow and get a set for this trip.
