Ok here is the project, There has been some pro and con discussion on the need for some sort of stiffener across the front of the engine bay. Rist Rocket racing made a beautiful piece that replaced the radiator support. Since my sling is down for paint and I am searching for projects I thought I would try and figure out a low budget way to reinforce the existing aluminum support. Not sure if any of my ideas would work so I ordered the part and began my project. Here is what I came up with.
Purchased (2) pieces of 3/16th steel long enough to go from end to end and wide enough to be a tight fit.
Slide that piece of steel into the part
Using the existing holes in the part plus an additional 2 on each side marked the steel
Then removed it - drilled holes and threaded the holes
Then inserted them back into the radiator support and secured each with 4 screws / washes and locktite
Finished product
Total cost under $20
I wanted @Ruptured Duck to be proud of me since he is the DIY King
Not sure if it will be as effective as the $250 after market stuff but sure can't hurt anything
And it is considerably stronger that the OEM part
