Need help changing my shifter

Some of those set screws are held in with what seems to be a bucket of loctite. The ones that we run into like that here, we use a small butane torch to get it hot, then typically we can get that set screw to back out.

I have also heard of people using the small butane torch lighters with good success or a soldering iron with the tip put into the set screw until it gets hot.

Also, another option if you are having issues is to lift up the rubber boot under the shifter and remove the 4 - 10mm head bolts holding the stock shifter mechanism in place. You can then lift out the entire assembly and work on it outside of the Slingshot. If you have a vise, this is a good option also as you can then use a 5mm Allen socket if you have one of those.

No... I'm not that strong. Going to take the 4 bolts out & remove the shifter, then cut the shifter in half to remove the bolt-plate. 🤨

Wow, that set screw is definitely in there. Once you get the shifter out, if you can set the piece on it's side with the set screw facing up, spray some penetrating lube into that area also and let it sit for a little bit to see if it will help also.

Here's what I did...

Pulled the 4 bolts at the bottom...

Once the hex screw was cleared, clamped it in the vice, used one vice grip for a heat sink, went after it with a MAP gas torch. A hex wrench & another vice grip got the screw out. Used dremmel & brush to clean screw threads, no proper size tap, so WD40 & screw used to clean threads.

After that, 10 more minutes and it was all done.

No chance for a test drive (appt on Zoom🤨).

Gonna drive it later today & see how it feels!

Yeah many kudos for not giving up on that one! I thought mine was a pain. Not for the shifter but I did realize pretty early on when messing with the slingshot that a tap and die set was almost a must. I finally had to break down and grab one last winter when putting my seats in. I'm pretty sure polaris uses recycled styrofoam coated in metallic paint for some of their nuts and bolts.

The most likely problem with Polaris's fasteners is the use of powered wrenches during assembly increasing the chances of misthreads. Of course, using fasteners made from cream cheese might also be part of the problem as I think styrofoam & metallic paint might have more strength.

Got mine shifter in the other day but my knob want go all the way down to secure it, still using the original rubber boot, did yall remove the metal ring on top of boot?

I am still running the original 2015 rubber boot with the DDM short shifter
