Is there a similar shortcut to disconnect the negative terminal for adding accessories? (ahem, Pedal Commander).
A tip for charging Slingshot battery

I leave the battery in place and remove the negative cable from the frame. I keep a short piece of garden hose in the toolbox to slip over the end of the cable.

I have actually jump started my sling off the alternator wire without issue. I hook up to the terminal and let the battery get a bit of a charge, about five minutes, then started the engine.
For keeping the battery charged I hook up my tender through the left turn signal circuit. This keeps the battery from getting to much charge at one time and causing premature battery wearing out. I still shift down without worrying about clutch wear, and I have no opinion on the pedal commander. Waiting for Bigdog 's comments.

Sounds like something catastrophic in the works...

One of the most important things my dealer told me was to get a battery tender because there is a power drain on the slingshot battery. They had a battery tender pigtail already installed on every SS in the showroom.
If your dealer didn't tell everyone about that they did you a disservice.

Can you elaborate upon what you mean by using the left turn signal circuit to reduce the charge delivered at one time?

To the extent that this is a factual aspect of a small parasitic drain on every new vehicle due to electronics, it's not limited to Slingshot. Having worked and lived with countless Slings over the last almost-five years, I can say they aren't any different from a production automobile in this regard. Slings in my world have sat for weeks without charging, and always fired up. Months? Perhaps a couple months without incident. Of course, this presumes a healthy battery, which ultimately is a subject for another thread. The vast majority of the machines I've encountered did have such.
I can understand why a dealer would wish to simmer them. They will sit for weeks or more on showroom floors, have lived a life of being started and moved repeatedly without being driven long periods to properly recharge. When a dealer has someone ready to spend $25K, the need to have several $20 battery tenders on hand simply pales in comparison. Nothing's more dealbreaking than a vehicle that won't start, a test drive that can't happen. That's like letting up the tension on the line while the fish is on the hook.
That said, the fact that the dealer wishes to prevent such embarrassment and lost sales is not an indictment of Slingshot in general. They're merely hedging their bets, and quite sagely, I'd add. -
I installed a plug in the panel you remove to access the battery for my battery tender. With the amount of wire that comes with this plug, it can be mounted practically anywhere.

We had this battery discussion not long ago.....but this article explains everything.
If a battery is not kept fully charged....corruption builds up inside essentially slowly killing the battery.
-
One more thing....if you are using a tiny motorcycle battery it’s probably even more critical to use a battery tender.....thinking back on all my motorcycles....that I never kept charged....the batteries were crap almost every year....every two years for sure....

Or just ride it more than once a month

It was a dig at a certain person that has odd ideas and posts, it served its function.

could you guys recommend a good battery charger that works with the plug that goes between the seats?
I just got my 2022 r , first time slingshot owner and just learning about all this.

This is what I use/used... I did have to buy the plug for the 12v port between the seats separately..

Right now I have 4 NOCO genius 2 trickle chargers. I plug them in between the seats with an adapter that I made back in 2015. They have a select for each type of battery. I was using the regular small battery tenders but I was having trouble with the AGM batteries not lasting because of the non adjustable charging. I threw all of them away and went with the NOCO Chargers and have not had any problems.

I like the one that Polaris recommends in the owner's manual and it works very well, and I have used the Battery Tenders for a long time but finally realized that they do not match the charging rate as the recommended by Polaris???? Just can't remember the name at the moment???

I use a Nocco one, it has been the best so far. Plus you can use it on different batteries and change the charge for during winter months.

Right now I am using the Hardly charger that I had for my bike.

This is the one I have been using since 2020 and works great and already has the correct connector to plug directly into your receptacle between the seats!!!
