I've been so tempted to get an African gray for years just never actually committed to it.

This is Layla - our lilac crowned amazon - - - for me its a love / hate relationship - - love her when she's all cute and saying "pretty bird" or "give me some kisses" - - even enjoy it when she paces around the perch mumbling words and saying "fuck you'
absolutely hate it when she starts screeching at full volume because she sees us eating something she thinks she wants - - dang thing so loud she can blow your eardrums out
This bird is easily going to out live us and even our children - and all of the grandkids have made it pretty clear they don't want her when we are gone - to much noise!

We have a African Gray she is a real talker. Seldom shuts up. We love her.

Do you have to clip her wings or does she stick around of her own choice?

That's the same boat we're in. Have had kinds of different animals. Cats, dogs, fish, reptiles, sugar gliders... never a bird. Have always been fascinated with parrots. All the reading I've done said the African gray is the most interactive and conversational by quite a bit. Been hesitant and the poop or getting pooped on or around the house but figured it could probably be no worse than the little gliders we had.

Our Grey was a real talker too! And mimicked all kinds of sounds...our driveway alarm, microwave, police siren(from video games), the list goes on and on. Our Cockatoos were soooo loving! That breed bonds on a different level than the other birds we have had. They take a special person to care for and tolerate them. Their squawk is super loud and if they think you are giving attention to someone else, they are going to be heard. Lol

Lily responds to questions you ask her and she gives the right responses. She can count to ten in English and to 5 in Japanese. She does a count down and says Lift Off at the end. She interacts with my Lab Zoe but we have 4 cats so she doesn't get let out of her cage but she has a huge cage I think it is called a flight cage so she don't mind. She has gotten out onto the floor and Zoe don't bother her as Lily walks under Zoe. The cats would be a different store. Yes her wings get clipped and I will say having a bird is a mess to keep cleaned up.

I grow these out in the backyard. If groceries get much higher I just might start eating them. This one is about 12 inches. They get quite a bit bigger than that.

I call him Rocky. He's a real card!

Baily, working on garden adjustments!

So the end of next week I pick up another fur babie.
I haven’t even picked her up yet and spoiled. -
LOL. If you look quickly at that cage without blowing the pic up, it looks like one wide dirt track tire under it

OMG My life is consumed by a puppy……it needs attention all the time lol. My senior is accepting of her SO FAR
