Rab, not to sound like a jerk....you need to take it to a vet and have it scanned for a micro chip....it could be someone’s lost beloved pet.....that perhaps accidentally ran away. He could very well be abandoned but you need to absolutely make sure.
Remove all the doubt.....if he is lost returning him would actually be a greater joy for his family....
There might even be a financial reward...
When you're at the doctor's house, ask him if he needs a full time watchman. I won't charge much, but a huge house, pool big motor home private plane - heck I'd be there in a heart beat
I agree about finding his owner if possible. I keep a tag and chip reader because of some of the drug trials we have. We have to scan the tags and sometimes the chips that are embedded in the people skin. So first thing i did was scan him. I even looked for and Id tattoo under his front arms. No such luck. He hasnt been around anyone in a long time. He is pretty thin... His hair hides the skinny. When i wet him you can tell he has not been eating much. And the weird thing is that he dosent want to eat. He is going to the vet tomorrow to get checked out. And the Doc knows that we have messages on facebook and at the two local vets webpages. So he is aware that he could be just babysitting. I will keep the lost dog post on the vets websites a little while before taking them back down. If someone is missing him they should go to one of the local vets or check the websites for lost dogs. And the facebook post on the town news will get someones attention if they are looking for him.
I honestly dont think anyone will be looking for him. Its just a desolate patch of wilderness where he was.
There is a neighborhood swimming pool down the street from me and it seems to be an unwanted animal drop off site. I’ve had so many cats hanging around my house over the years.
Display MoreI have a temporary guest that I found running in the road in the rain. He is a beautiful Australian Shepherd and he basically jumped in my truck when Allison opened the door. We had some hush puppies that we were carring home for our dogs and he smelled them and basically didnt even chew. He just swallowed them whole. He smelled like the nasty juice on a 100 degree day that you have in the bottom of a trashcan outside. And it was also mixed with a tinge of skunk. He also was obviously thin and later when i gave him his first bath I noticed his hair being all matted up.
It was really a miracle that we had taken this way back home last night. Allison and i had went to eat at this really rural cafe. When we pulled out of the parking lot I just decided I would take a look at the area and go the back way home. So about half way home Allison and I saw him walking up the middle of the highway. Allison rolled the window down and he turned and walked back toward my truck. We noticed he had a collar on but it had no info on it. We checked with the nearest house and an older guy said he had never seen him before. So we brought him home and we washed him 2 times till he smelled better. Then watched him eat till we had to stop him for fear of it making him sick. He has since stop gorging on food and eats normally...
Now the reason he is temporary is because I have a home picked out for him. He will end up living with a very nice Dr. that I work for. He will get to travel to all the SEC Football games in huge 48 foot motorhome and fly in his personal airplane. And he will get to play on the beach at his condo in Florida. He will live in a huge huge house with a big backyard and pool. He will be played with everyday. And he will get his own air matress dog bed. Heck he will probably never have to get in the rain again if he doesn't want to.
This Dr. had a dog till several weeks ago. He had a spinal problem and he eneded up passing away. I have been telling him he needs to get another dog and this one is perfect. The Dr. will be home today around lunch and im carrying him to his new home.
The dog had a home obviously and has either just ran so far away that he can not find his way back. Or someone picked him up and he was on the run again. He has been fixed and he leads on leash without the slightest pull on leash. He had a very good disposition and wants to be petted all the time.
We put a lost dog post on a local Facebook page. And like I said, we went 1/2 a mile from where we found him to the nearest house and no one had ever seen him. So he was clearly lost. There isnt much i can do short of having a crystal ball.

He is almost the same size as lewis. Just a little smaller...

My dog Lewis has proven he isn't going anywhere so i figured letting them use the collar till he got used to the new environment would be cheap insurance on finding him if he took off.
So for now he has a new home. Here is a pic of his new home from space.

My wife just was approved to adopt a dog from ECHO Dog
He is a 10 year old White Shepard mix named Luke.
Max my Goldendoodle wearing a Slingshot teeshirt to prevent him licking a sore he got on his chest.He is doing ok with it.
Well guess what....I would have never thought that someone cared about the dog.. But to my surprise the owners have been found. And two young boys and a family have been reunited with their dog. His name is Cowboy
And the doctor said that the overnight stay with the dog made him realize how much they miss having a doggie and that they definitely do want a dog. So it was my job to find him an Australian Shepherd. And this morning I found him a little girl with blue eyes. She has a docked tail and her dew claws were removed ans she is AKC registered. Here is a picture of cowboys family and a pic of the little girl that they are going to look at this afternoon.
If I were in your place I would gift Cowboy's owners a name and address tag to put on Cowboy's collar. for the few $$ it cost every dog should have one
yep. Today we drove back over to where his house is. He was 1.1 miles from his house. It was a long way for a dog they said never leaves their yard.... And when we initially saw him he was going away from his house. I am guessing he was just a bit confused. But it all worked out in the end.

Sad news today. My daughter had to put down her friend of 18 years. Just a mixed breed but her buddy anyway. He was suffering pretty bad and had to do what was humane .
