Jared & Ross & Randy & Doug's Excellent Adventure

  • Ok. Day two eastbound. Left Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, and we ended the night about 20 miles past Theodore Roosevelt National Park North, in North Dakota. It was about 14 and a half hours on the road, and 650 miles.

Medicine Hat to the Bborder was a couple hours, and the last hundred and 40 km was absolutely nothing. Literally did not see another car for over a hundred and forty kilometers. At one point we went 45 minutes between buildings, and they were not close to the road.

It was pretty awesome to switch the speedometer from km back to miles, too. And at least it's nice to know how badly you are being raped at the pump. Liters just aren't my thing.

So then it was south and east all morning and into the afternoon. We got to Theodore Roosevelt National Park South mid-afternoon, and took the circuit drive through the park. Lots of Badlands type terrain, but a little more widespread, more scrub growth.

Then we drove about 50 miles to Theodore Roosevelt National Park north, and timed it just about perfectly to hit both the park and the time change just a little bit before sunset. So we drove in, got a couple of the views, and then proceeded further in to see if we could find bison. Holy hell, did we ever. I got a couple of good pictures of a herd and a cow somewhat near the road, but I also have a couple of videos. I'm not up on posting videos on to the Forum, but I will put them out on Facebook, and maybe after I get home from the trip and have the time and energy to figure it out, I will post the videos here as well.

So tomorrow we leave the bustling metropolis of Watford City, North Dakota, and we are headed east on Interstate 94. The plan is to knock off North Dakota, all the way through Minnesota around the Twin Cities and down into Wisconsin. We are going to lose @exharleyrider at the Twin Cities, as he goes South from there, and then @Ross and I will push to WI, another 4 hrs. Looks like about a 16 to 18 hour day tomorrow, basically just driving the machines from full to empty and doing it all over again and again. Another brutal day, similar to my first from South Carolina to Wisconsin. We will see how it goes.

  • @BryanL and I left Sundre between 1 and 2 pm yesterday and took Sara to the Calgary airport (minus the rain and hail we had on the way up) for her flight home. We rolled for the rest of the day - full to empty like @KayTwo and the gang - until we stopped after 10 pm at Bonners Ferry, ID on the US side of the border. We saw some beautiful country, none of which we stopped for photos of. We got up at 0600 and had our free breakfast after which Bryan said he was going to drop $20 in a slot machine. Oh yeah, we were at a casino. I went back to load my gear and Bryan (carnival name: Lucky) showed up before I was done with just over $300 of the casino's money in his pocket. This was after having his ticket pulled at least a dozen times at the raffle the night before and him burning several tickets by calling out, "draw again!" I won too without dropping a dime since he picked up the tab for the room. Thanks brother! Everyone please say a prayer for his mother who took ill while we were gone.

Remember folks - this isn't a rehearsal, this is The Show!8)

Full to empty..... splash and dash..... rinse and repeat. I know what you guys are going thru. Went to Sturgis in 2004 on the Harley. Back to back 800ish mile days. I do think the SS is more friendly to travel as long as it's dry out. You guys roll safe, prayers for safe travels!

everyone be safe today. It's going to be a long day at work today.

  • OK, enough of this @Bu11sh1t modesty! Here is his amazing ride:

This was a smaller event than some of the others, so Sara and I had the pleasure of spending some time with Harvey and Diana. We really enjoyed their company and will look forward to meeting up again.

So Harvey (in my best Dr. Seuss):

It took just a moment to see your gruff exterior,
It just a big front to hide a heart that's superior.
You're willing to help out when a person's in need,
And do it without ego, agenda or greed.
People like you are not often found,
who've achieved their success and kept their feet on the ground.
So I will look forward to when we meet again,
And I can say to your face you're a man among men!

    No Bu11sh1t!

  • A beautiful machine, and one of my best friends! Well stated my friend, and all true!
