Will I see 80...

(something to think about.)
I recently had to choose a new primary care doctor. After twovisits and exhaustive lab tests, she said I was doing fairly well for my age.(Iam past seventy).
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist askingher, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'
She asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, ordrink beer, wine or hard liquor?'
'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'
Then she asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'
'I said, 'Not much... My former doctor said that all red meat isvery unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf,boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.
She asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'
'No,' I said.........
She looked at me and said, 'Then, why do you even give a shit?

I had a similar conversation with my doctor when I hit 60. I asked him if he thought I would live to be 80 and he asked me "how old was your father when he died?"

I said, "What makes you think he's dead? He's 81 and in pretty good health"

Doc "oh, I'm so sorry. I just assumed. Well, how old was HIS father when he dies?"

Again I said to him "what makes you think my grandfather is dead? He's 103 years old"

"Wow, that's wonderful. And how is his health?"

"Great," I said. "He plays golf 3 times a week and he's getting married next month"

"WHY does a 103 year old man want to get married?"

"Doc, who says he WANTS to?"

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards.

Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 55.

For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a month, leaving us more than 280,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are bad-tempered and impatient, and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.

If captured, we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with bad attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50... in menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes?? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!

It has been, and still is, all being orchestrated to the point of a civil disobedience. The orchestrators never thought the ones with the guns would have such resolve to not have risen to arms by now. They even are training for that day, and have been for a few years. Once uprising happens, they have the big guns, and will do all to "restore" peace, most likely using other countries armies that don't care about the USA. Meaning taking weapons however necessary, so that we can be ruled as one world govt. An "Us and Them" scenario like we've yet to see, the haves and have nots. But that also will likely have many US soldiers desert, and take with them the knowledge and weapons to fight such a fascist uprising by them. World War III in the making.

Was that my true inner thoughts, or was that a bad Sci Fi movie? Time will tell....

Well, you pay a 20-something-year-old a few million dollars a year and all of a sudden he thinks he's bigger than the game he plays. Happens all the time. As an owner, you can't just nuke your talent. He'll just go to another team. The league should just put a stop to it across the boards and the whiners can head to the unemployment line...or put on a uniform and report for duty!

The last time I checked, in this country we do not bow to our leaders and have the right to our own opinion. This is the basis that the country was founded on. I am so middle of the road that at times you will have trouble deciding which side I am on, but I will always defend anyone's right to the freedoms granted in the Constitution. Is it always right, maybe not, but it is the reason we are free. Right fighters and libtards still need to work together to get things done. What the hell ever happened to middle ground? If there is war between the two, I'm going to be a conscientious objector!

@Bill Martin the far left and the far right are what is causing the problem. We no longer know how to sit down and discuss problems and come up with a solution. Just like Trump giving McCain grief because he doesn't vote party lines on an issue. I back McCain for standing up. Straight party politics are not the answer. The Republican Party has been hijacked by too many groups and has no direction. LBJ and Everett Dirksen are rolling over in their graves. We have to come to a consensus. Politics has become a pocket vote of the top 1%. It's no longer about people. It's all about how much money has someone given or can give. Our Senators and Representatives spend more time fund raising for themselves and their party than they do working for those who elected them. The system is broken in ways our founding fathers never imagined. Term limits would help, but how do we get them when the fat cats who pass the bills would put themselves out of a job. If they want to reform healthcare, why don't they put all of us on their program? Why don't they want to reform the taxes so we all benefit? Why is so much hidden in all legislation? We can't get answers because they don't want us to know. We don't have the big bucks to keep the system in our control. This was never foreseen in the Constitution but is used on a daily basis to screw the majority. I don't dislike government, I disdain politicians.

Maverick5990 I agree with you that we have partially lost our ability to hav a real discussion about a difference of opinion. I don’t however agree it comes from both sides. If you argue with most liberals and disagree with them they immediately call you a racist, or a homophob, or worse. I have seen black police officers called racist and worse because they arrested someone of color. One of the real problems, as I see it, the media is liberally slanted ridicule any opinion except their own. That creates a real problem cause people who don’t know any better only hear one message. Add to that stuff that is generated on the internet that people just take as fact without even checking it. I don’t know how many times I have had someone say “ did you hear this!” No where did you hear that, oh on Facebook! Did you check it? No then how do you know it’s true? Then I just get a blank expression. I have run into so many people that are just sheep and either can’t or won’t think for themselves! I am truly scared for this country. Ok I am getting of my soapbox now
