Display MoreI got mine mainly because of the 400' ceiling rule and that it's easier to get approval in flight restriction areas. Also, being able to fly after dusk.
It's$5 for the license and $150 for the exam with a 2 year requalification.
I studied nightly for 2 weeks, about an hour a night, and took about 10 practice tests online. It's not an easy test, but if you study a little, you'll do fine.
Rumor has it that some states are going to require it in any restricted flight areas. That means, within 5 miles of any airport, hospital, Heliport, stadium, national parks, etc.
Basically, pretty much anywhere except remote areas.
Here, you can't fly anywhere in the city limits of Savannah without it because of the overlapping restricted flying areas.
Hope that helps.
