If you are entering and exiting at the same border check point can you declare your side arm and ammo and have it locked up until your return? I was told that our friends to the North are a bit squeamish about our right to keep and bear arms.

Yeah....still unanswered. Still haven't decided what I'm going to do with that issue.
I would be willing to bet that with your background and connections you could make contact with local LEO's in the area where you will exit and return and they will take care of it for you. jes a thought
find a gun shop near the border and drop off your side arm for cleaning.
I have the same concern about mine. They seem to have an issue with barrels shorter than 4 inches. I'm guessing my 380 willbe an issue

THAT'S a hell of an idea. Damn.
@Bu11sh1t, what was the name of the town/hotel you recommended staying at the night before the run through Glacier National Park? Can't remember where you posted that.

Here's how this thing is shaping up.
1st day (Sun, 7/22): leave here around midnight or 1 am, get to @Ross place early afternoon Sunday.
Day 2 (Mon, 7/23): Leave the house at 4 am or so, drive until noon or so, find a place to grab a lunch and cool off for a few hours, then hit the road in the evening, and if my calculations are right, we should be right outside Badlands National Park right quick. Might could even make it by noon or so if we left at 3 or something.
Day 3 (Tues, 7/24): Hit Badlands at dawn. I want to see it in the morning light before the tourists clog that road. Then head West towards Cody. Drive out the day until we can't handle it anymore, hopefully within an hour or so of Beartooth.
Day 4 (Weds, 7/25): Hit the road in time to start Beartooth at morning light. Another road I want to see, but not deal with tourists. Then head north into MT. Stop the night near GNP, at the place Harvey recommended.
Day 5 (Thurs, 7/26): Same deal, early departure, hit Going to the Sun Rd shortly after dawn. That should put us at the border before noon, and Sundre late afternoon.
See anything that works, let me know.
@KayTwo, it looks like I'll be meeting up with you the evening of Wed. 7/25 at Mini golden inn, Hungry horse Mt. I've decided to leave the sidearm at home and takes me chances. I'm really not worried about north of the border. Every trip I've made to Canadia (where Canadians come from) has been very comfortable. Plus I've got the guns Mother Nature gave me. And I can still run pretty fast for my age. So let's get in touch when we're hitting the road and I'm really hoping @Ross is making the trip!
You all realize a lot of Canadians travel everyday all over the US without being armed, yes I would imagine some might have problems occur but rarely do you hear of any. I think a lot of the fear of something happening is true but sometimes you just have to face it and carry on.
I am heading to Sundre for the 2018 Slingfest and plan on bringing some of my rear protection plates to sell - and one for the raffle. If anyone is interested, send me a message and it will help to ensure I bring enough of each color. Especially you Canadian friends who can save on shipping and import duties. I can also bring luggage racks for anyone interested but won't really have room unless they are spoken for ahead of time. Looking forward to meeting the forum members who attend! Cheers!
So I wanted to do something about the small tools floating around my driver's side cargo space. Inwas going to get something thin and flat to go under the seat, but didn't really come across anything I liked. So I picked one of these up from MTM. Durable as shit, waterproof, and it has a compass in the cover!
Anyway, it fits my travel socket set, a small adjustable wrench, a travel set of allen wrenches, a small container of various bits and such, plus another strip of torx bits, plus a length of 550 cord, a couple pouches of hand cleaner, and a couple pairs of latex gloves. Can't go wrong.
Oh, and i picked up one of those folding 4-way lug wrenches on @FunCycle's recommendation. Cool stuff.

But is there any room leftover to store some cookies? You never know when you get the muchies on a long solo ride

I think I'll have a good amount of room, yeah.
