I have been noticing the lock nut loose on my rear QA1 from time to time... But I never gave it much thought... I would just tighten it and go on with life...
However yesterday I noticed that the spring "looked" low on the threads.... The nuts had gradually turned down TOGETHER till they were about 1 inch from coming off the threads...
Normally this wouldn't cause me to write a post... But lately I had been noticing a vibration thru the drivetrain in 4th and 5th... I had just written it off to a stretched belt because the vibration felt like the teeth on the belt... I figured I had somehow stretched the belt with the added power..
Here is the deal... If you dont keep the rear spring tight and keep the rear end up in the air you will have WAY to much tension on the belt... SO its not just a matter of adjusting the final drive back and forth to tighten it, It also has to do with the angle of the rear swingarm. (which I knew from raising the bike up and the belt being super loose). I just never though that 2 inches of adjustment on the shock thread would make the belt banjo tight... SO the moral of the story is to make sure your springs stay tight at the same spot and doesn't sneak loose on you....
Soon as I tightened my rear spring the belt loosed up a bit and now the vibration is completely gone....
