ESP light on

I hate to admit it but now I am confused. The ESP light coming on is because of a bad brake switch? I'm no mechanic... I'll do the brake light test mentioned in the other thread but not sure where to go from there. Guess I have a lot of reading to do.
I also don't relish the idea of tearing into something new that I have had for a week.

Sorry GlennB I derailed your thread when my brake light came on the other day. Bad form I guess but it happens more often than you'd think.
I'm no stranger to derailed threads... probably done it myself a few times without trying.

To clarify...
The Electronic Stability Program is used to assist driver's maintain control of the vehicle. It uses different sensors to detect wheel speed, acceleration, deceleration, etc. It uses that information to make inputs to brakes and throttle to maintain control of vehicle.
If your ESP light comes on and stays on... this is the system failure... you will be driving your Slingshot with out any assist from computer. ABS system is active.
It would be the same as pressing and holding the ESP/Traction Control Switch for five seconds which makes those systems inactive.
If you see the ESP Light flashing and then goes off, you had an intervention event from the system.
The ESP system is there to assist you when you get in over your head...
That doesn't mean it will save your ass.
Is it safe to return to the dealer???
Call the dealer and ask...
With the ESP/Traction Control inactive, you have the capability to do long burn-outs, donuts, and drift all the way back to the dealer, doesn't mean you have should.
Your fun is seriously limited with the systems active.
The reason for mentioning the magnetic brake switch...
Doesn't require special test tools to check and is more often the cause.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification, I understand a lot more now. I figured it was all related somehow, I just don't know quite enough to be dangerous (yet.)

airoutlaw is one of our go to 'guys' ... puts miles on and does a lot of his own work on the Slingshot. And does his research on the different Slingshot problems.

SlingJockey was first to photo document the mechanical brake switch replacement and I thank him and FunCycle for the part numbers.
Had to replace my magnetic brake switch.
Used a different part from AutoZone.
Here's that link...

Someone had to do the pictures, if I remember Bobby was like the first to do it and shortly there after I did it. On the forum I think that was the beginning.

I did a brake check, and they seem fine. Lights go on and off with the pedal with no delay.

Know this...
With the ESP light continuous on, the computer will not make inputs to control the vehicle.
With that info...
You ever have a vehicle assist you in driving prior to the Slingshot?
Call the dealer, and if you would be uncomfortable with driving the Slingshot, see if he will arrange pick-up and warranty repair.
Other items that can cause ESP light on...
Steering gearbox angle sensor.
Wheel speed sensors.
Yada, yada, yada...
All above our pay grade.
Don't get discouraged.
We've all been through it with a new purchase at one time or another.

Assuming covid-19 issues are behind this un-resolved thread...

Haven't been able to do a lot of riding due to the weather, but the light has not come back on... fingers crossed...
