Frogg Toggs and Nelson-Rigg make lightweight inexpensive rain gear.

Frogg Toggs act as a windbreaker and rain gear. Had them in the motorcycles for 30 years....

I carry two sets of high end rain gear. It looks it is going to rain so you find a place to pull over and put them one one. Then the sun comes out before the rain comes down. Then there is it is going to rain and I can't find a place to pull over and I a=might as well not bother as I am not going to get any wetter. But believe me if you don't have them it will rain.

My 'experience' was going on my 1st 2,700+ mile trip to Sundre Alberta for Slingfest. I met Ross , KayTwo and exharleyrider in Montana, we rode through Glacier National Park, then up to Canada. When we were about 90 minutes from the Calgary airport to pick up my wife, a doozy of a storm came in. KayTwo got the word on his phone and we all pulled over to gear up. That's when the others found out that I did not bring rain gear. It was mid-90s when I left home, good weather was forecast all week and I guess I decided I wouldn't need it. Well, I got more than a little ribbing about being from the northwest and not having rain gear (I own several sets!). Luckily Ross had an extra set he let me use. However, they were XL and I'm not so when we took off the wind blew up my legs inflating the suit like the Michelin Man and hilarity ensued. I will never live this down. It didn't help that when Sara and I flew to Huntsville for homecoming at the Polaris plant and exharleyrider loaned us his Sling for one short ride, we got rained on. I had rain gear on that trip - in the hotel room. Polaris was unable to provide us long-distance travelers with Slingshots to ride as intended (liability issues) so the rain gear stayed in the room. Almost everyone thought that was hilarious too.
Man I miss those guys...
