The insert "nipples" are a very poor design. They need bolsters but instead there is just the heat welded tube. Many are broken during factory assembly I believe. They are brittle and will break if you look at them crookedly!!!!

No super strength - just double faced tape frustration!
I was going to buy new inserts but figured the same thing would happen to new ones.
I used some 3M molding tape in a few spots when I put them back on - so far so good!

@Red might know... Or anyone with fancy painted from factory ones... Are they the same plastic as the black plastic ones? Check the code/stamp if you could...
I learned a lot about plastics with Jim...
And his super smart brother in law...

I would bet they only made 1 mold for the bottom and changed out the blank for the top with a different finish. That tooling is not cheap so it would make sense to save as much money as possible.
Thanks guys! The body guy that's doing my paint didn't seem phased by it. He was confident in some type of adhesive they use in the shop for re-assembly.
A man answered an ad that read "Hiring welders $18-$24 @ hour". When he arrived he was told he'd have to take a welding test. He turned in 2 sets of welds. When the boss asked him why he did this he replied "One is $18@hr, the other is $24@hr". Just let that one soak in.

I had 5 broken on each side almost all were closest to the windshield. The painted ones look exactly like the originals underneath. When I installed the new ones I made them snug not tight, so far so good.
The new ones appeared to be a little stiffer than the old ones. Tripod may have more info on this.

I'm changing mine as all but 4 tabs are broken! Use double faced tape when re-installing to help keep them from breaking. Double faced mirror tape is great.... two strips on the upper locations and one on the dip..... don't put one in the low corner as they are difficult to remove if you take off again!
I did not use tape on my first re-install and found that the vibration cracked the tabs quickly! 13 screws would hold if they had something good to connect with!!!!! POLARIS!
Final verdict:
Krypton Green
Paint and 20 hours labor including disassembly/assembly.
$1878

I anticipated that! Installing a CAI tomorrow to compensate for the color change!

It's actually a GM paint code:
WA445B
It was the 2017 Camaro LT1 special color for that year.

GM, Dodge I was close but yes it's amazing. Dodge did a Viper in a color close to that and I fell in love with the car.
