Saw the Doc this morning. I asked how long before before I can drive a stick shift.
He said, minimum 6 months, but there is a possibility of never being able to without pain.
The damage was much more severe that the MRI showed.
However, he said there's always a chance I will kill it in therapy and be better sooner. Everybody is different. That automatic transmission conversion is starting to look like better option. Hopefully it won't come to that.
One at or another, I'll be in a sling at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.
I need to talk to @Turbosling and see if it'll even be financially possible for me.
Hoping so.Sorry that you have bad news from the Doc. If we can help you with a Auto swap let me know. Price installed starts at 5k

Just have Henry and Alpha whip up a RH drive conversion for you. Then you can shift with your left hand....

hang in there with therapy. Didn't think I was going to walk again without a walker and leg brace (drop foot) after the 2nd back surgery. They can work wonders! Keep focused and have faith! I can back around.

I have a great talk with @Turbosling today and discussed the auto conversion. Henry, thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I know you guys are very busy.
I talked to the Doc on the phone today and I'm going Ib next week to see him and discuss options for getting me back to as close to normal as possible and timeframes.
I should be able to make a better decision after that.
It sounds like the auto conversion would be a great option.
Thanks again Henry. -
Great talking to you as well. Hope all goes well with the Doc and that you will be calling me for parts and not a auto conversion!

Just ran across this and knowing a lot of us are getting to the age where we are beginning to have lots of aches and pains -just kinda thought this little vid would be inspirational for all of us, including me, facing physical challenges -

Came with good news and bad news.
The good news is, the Doc said that I'm doing much better than expected and he expects no more surgeries! Probably only 80% use, but I'll take that!
The bad news is that it'll take about 6 months of extensive PT to get to that point.
He said I should probably be able to use a stick shift in 3-4 months! So, @Turbosling, I won't be needing that auto conversion! That means I'll be spending that money on a supercharger instead!!! -
Hey Joker, glad to hear your recovery will be less than originally anticipated.
I hope your physical therapy is quick and painless as well.
My thoughts and prayers are with it. -

Also he did not conceder that where is a will there is a way, I can use my elbow almost fully (IMO) Anhow just stick with your positive outlook

I've had 3 PT sessions post surgery. It sucks! But my PT tech is awesome. She keeps telling me, "If it hurts too bad, let me know. I keep telling her, " I'll deal with the pain. You just do what it takes to get me better. I'll deal with it".
As long as I can get better, I'll do whatever! -

Speedy recovery Joker 256 and I wish you the best with your rehab and that new hardware. God willing you'll be back grabbing gears soon! I know it won't be soon enough for you but when you're back in your sling I'm sure the wind in your face will make you forget much of what you're now going thru!!! Hang in there and keep looking forward...

I would, but I plan I trading the brace in on a slingshot, so I don't want to affect the resale value of that by doing custom paint!
