This is how it works in Wisconsin too - in and out in about 30 - 60 mins w/o issues.

  • Yes that is about the time unless the people behind the counter have a lot of customers. I normally know the gun I want long before I buy on. When there is a lot of people in the country buying guns the the server where ever it is bogs down and I have it take hours, but the place I buy guns from or have guns shipped to just lets me go shoot the gun on their indoor range while the back ground check is processing. I have been accused of belonging to the Gun of the Month Club. The place gives you a free month on the indoor range for each purchase. I got a free years membership two years straight.

I have never used an indoor range, I just walk out my back door to my personal 100 yard range.

  • In NJ you must interview with the local police dept., get fingerprinted, and pay a $70 dollar fee (that was back 10 years ago, could be more now) for a permit to purchase a hand gun. I believe it's only good for 30 days. After that you must renew again. Once you get the handgun you can only transport to and from the purchase or to a practice range and return.

"The online Firearms Application should be used only after consultation with your local Police Department or the State Police Barracks responsible for processing your firearm application. You must first obtain an Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) Number from the licensing department to complete this form. Please ensure that the agency ORI number is correct on the form. If an incorrect ORI number is entered on the form, you will NOT receive a firearms ID card or a permit to purchase. You will then have to re-apply using the correct ORI number and pay for the process again. A refund can not be issued.

If you have never been fingerprinted before for firearms purposes, you will need to go for fingerprinting. Follow the instructions/link in your confirmation email to schedule your fingerprint appointment. However, if you have been fingerprinted before for firearm purposes, upon completion of this form and payment, you will have completed both Firearms Application and 212A requirements."

Same here in Iowa. Takes longer for the Mrs. to pick out shoes than for me to buy a gun.

Not a fair comparison - you are either there to buy a specific gun or see one that really strikes your fancy and maybe hold 2 or 3 to inspect. A woman goes in and has to try on every shoe in the store, has to figure out what shoes goes with what outfit, discard shoe choices her girlfriends already have, call you away from looking at guns to ask “do these look good on me?”, long talk with sales lady about when specific shoes are going to go on sale, one of her girlfriends come in starting a 30 minute gossip session. You - head hanging low - go to the gun counter and ask “can I have one bullet to put me out of my misery please Sir?”

PS Of course this is in a fantasy land where guns and women’s shoes were sold in the same place. But with as women arming themselves at a breakneck pace this could soon be a reality. This could ruin gun sales for us men / can you imagine hearing “honey let’s go to the gun store 😃 and I need to pick up a pair of shoes while we are there 😩”. Baby you go and I’m gonna stay here and do yard work :00008172:

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it

Not really related but your post reminded me of this. Gotta love it!

The State of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife sends a letter to a home/landowner asking for permission to access a creek on his property to document the decline in a certain species of unheard of frogs.

The property owners' response in the second letter is EPIC.

Letter from Washington Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife:

    Dear Landowner:

WDFWR Staff will be conducting surveys for foothill yellow-legged frogs & other amphibians over the next few months. As part of this research we would like to survey the creek on your property. I am writing this letter to request your permission to access your property.

Recent research indicates that foothill yellow-legged frogs have declined significantly in recent years and are no longer found at half their historic sites. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated and will help contribute to the conservation of this important species.

Please fill out the attached postage-paid postcard and let us know if you are willing to let us cross your property or not.

If you have any concerns about this project please give us a call. We would love to talk with you about our research.

    Sincerely

    RESPONSE FROM LANDOWNERS:

    Dear Mr. Niemela:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding accessing our property to survey for the yellow-legged frog. We may be able to help you out with this matter.

We have divided our 2.26 acres into 75 equal survey units with a draw tag for each unit. Application fees are only $8.00 per unit after you purchase the "Frog Survey License" ($120.00 resident / $180.00 Non-Resident). You will also need to obtain a "Frog Habitat" parking permit ($10.00 per vehicle).

You will also need an "Invasive Species" stamp ($15.00 for the first vehicle and $5.00 for each add'l vehicle) You will also want to register at the Check Station to have your vehicle inspected for Non-native plant life prior to entering our property. There is also a Day Use fee, $5.00 per vehicle.

If you are successful in the Draw you will be notified two weeks in advance so you can make necessary plans and purchase your "Creek Habitat" stamp. ($18.00 Resident / $140.00 Non-Resident).

Survey units open between 8 am. And 3 PM. But you cannot commence survey until 9 am. And must cease all survey activity by 1 PM.

Survey Gear can only include a net with a 2" diameter made of 100% organic cotton netting with no longer than an 18 in handle, non-weighted and no deeper than 6' from net frame to bottom of net. Handles can only be made of BPA-free plastics or wooden handles.

After 1 PM. You can use a net with a 3" diameter if you purchase the "Frog Net Endorsement" ($75.00 Resident / $250 Non-Resident).

Any frogs captured that are released will need to be released with an approved release device back into the environment unharmed.

As of June 1, we are offering draw tags for our "Premium Survey" units and application is again only $8.00 per application.

However, all fees can be waived if you can verify "Native Indian Tribal rights and status".

You will also need to provide evidence of successful completion of "Frog Surveys" and your "Comprehensive Course on Frog Identification, Safe Handling Practices, and Self-Defense Strategies for Frog Attacks."

This course is offered on-line through an accredited program for a nominal fee of $750.00.

Please let us know if we can be of assistance to you. Otherwise, we decline your access to our property but appreciate your inquiry.

    Sincerely,

    Larry & Amanda Anderson.

Remember folks - this isn't a rehearsal, this is The Show!8)

  • I LOVE IT!

  • ATF Form 4473 question 21.b & 21.c

Just purchased another 22 rifle (RIA TM22). Was filling out the paperwork when I came to this question. It was written in a EXTREMELY CONFUSING legalease, seemed intended to be read between attorneys.

Question 21B references text in 21C and the question is basically a straw purchase question, which could be written in very plain English. When talking to the counter guy he said "yeah they did it confusing on purpose, they figure they can get half the folks to fail".

    Just a heads up.

  • I just pulled down the new form a read it seams they made several changes. I used to be Yes, No No No all the way down the list. The way I read it it is still a No unless you are going to give or sell it to someone that is not allowed to have it.

If the music is to loud you are to old.

  • Yet another mass shooting in Louisville, KY - 5 dead - 6 wounded so far. Pretty sure most of us here were kids or young adults when Charles Whitman killed 14 people from a tower at the University of Texas. The whole country was in shock - no one could even comprehend such a senseless act of violence. As I remember it was pretty quickly decided that Whitman was a lunatic, killed at the scene - case closed. No one even thought of blaming the gun. Fast forward 33 years to Columbine - the next big mass shooting. That was when the anti gun crowd really began to formalize. Now mass shootings are a frequent blight on society with everyone blaming the gun. I gotta call bullshit!! Look at the values folks had in 1966 vs now close to 50 years later. No morals and little if no value of other human lives or rights. I’m of the opinion that moral decay is the prevailing reason for all the killings be it mass or singularly. If the country continues on this path we will destroy ourselves from within. Not to go all religious but I do remember what happened at Sodom and Gomorrah from Sunday school - could we be next!?

I might not be right but I can sure sound like it
