What was today's Sling project-Mods , goodies....?

  • I have a smart phone. Will this work without an internet connection? I have mq but it needs an internet connection.

Here is the answer from the myq site... myQ technology gives you the ability to monitor, open and close your garage door or gate, and control your home lighting from anywhere using the myQ website or the myQ Control App. Note: An internet connection is required.

you have to have WiFi in your home which would need to be connected to the internet

  • Hey billythekidd Sounds like you are far more into it than I am - - for me it started with cameras, went with several different brands starting before they even connected to wifi over time some stopped working and got replaced and one brand I tried was abandoned by the company which left them non functional - after that happened I decided to go with the Ring cameras, I figure with Ring being owned by Amazon it was unlikely they would be abandoned like my other cameras were. could have gone with Blink which does have its own hub and is also owned by Amazon, but wanted the doorbell which at the time wasn't a blink option.

Anyway right now with just me and the wife at home I have a total of 24 devices connected to my wifi - that will jump up to 27 0r 28 when the kids and grand kids stop over - this should be well within what my router can deal with and I have it set up so that the few things that might need higher speed access like my TV are on the 5g side

My wifi speeds are pretty good I just ran a speed test on the 2.4g and got 103 Mbps down and 22.7 up and on the 5g I got 363 down and 23.4 up - - - my hard wire speed comes in at 477 Mbps down and 23.4 up - - - - - I find it interesting that 2.4g - 5g , hard wired my upload speed is the same clearly the wifi is not the limiting factor (my internet plan is supposed to give me 400 down and 20 up which of course would be the hard wired speed and it always does a good bit better) - - - but anyway not even close to having bandwidth issues - In the specs Ring says the cameras require an upload speed of 2Mbps or greater and mine are all set on motion activation so its not like they are all trying to upload data at the same time

Sounds very good... I have a server with Blue Iris software running... I have my 9 cameras set to only record to the server when there is motion, but they are always on drawing bandwith. My download speed with all my cameras hooked up on the 2.4 is about 89mps. upload is 26mps... I have a tri-band router so both of the 5ghz bands get around 700mbps down and 40 up... my wired is 960mps down and 44up. This is all very fun for an old guy to do while retired...

When I connect all my 6 pc's, 6 macs (two are real old because I like to remote to them and still play the old Zork games), an old Amiga 4000 phone, 2 ipads and both servers I have well over 100 devices... The neighbors always joke that when I turn on all my stuff the neighborhood looses power.... :) I was an IT specialist for the last almost 20 out of the 42 years I worked for what used to be called the Phone Company. ATT, NWBell, Mountain Bell, USWest, Qwest, Centurylink... now it is just a hobby...

    Enjoy..

  • Billy, it's creepy how similar our smart home paths are... Started with vera and a lot of cameras on 2.4 had issues, went smart things hub and all cameras on blue iris as well. Then early last year my underground feed line to house shorted together and sent 220ish volts to half the stuff in the house. All my smart outlets fried, hubs, bunch of cameras - 15k insurance payout all said and done. Bought a nDVR stand alone unit with wifi cameras and have an alexa door bell now lol. Screw tinkering and setting all that shit up again lol Oh and those wifi switches and outlets damn near set my house on fire - all 110v old fashion light switches survived.

In other news, Mr Dave sent me this teaser pic today of my rear end. Needless to say the wife is more excited now and wanted me to mock up the colors I picked for the rest of it!

  • Todays mod - the low budget horn upgrade - - - hated the stock horn not loud enough and such a low tone that no one even hears it. Looked at online options from the known vendors and just didn't see spending $100 or more for something I almost never even use so I started looking around for options. at first I was thinking that I would go to Pick a Part and just pull a horn off of some wreck and then I saw this Horn on Amazon for $15.37 plus tax. figured with gas costing what it does now days that getting this delivered would actually cost less so I ordered it yesterday When I was waiting for it to show up I cannibalized the connector off the stock horn and with some surgery and some wire and connectors I had I made myself a plug n play connector. When the horn arrived this afternoon took me under 5 minutes to install it right back in the stock location.

Hella High tone 500 hz Super Horn $16.79 delivered

Homemade plug n play connector $0.00 and about 30 minutes of fun

and a 5 minute install right back in the stock location - - - and a horn with a sound I actually like that at 500hz and 118 db people might even notice :00008674:

A good functional mod for well under 20 bucks - - - - you don't find many of those in the Slingshot world

  • One more piece to the puzzle. Right side is fronts, left side is for quad kit! I actually won the ones on the right a year plus ago, took awhile to get them but was glad to see they shipped with the rears I did order. I need to make them easy on/off in the rear as I'm sure they won't fit with the smaller wheel/slick combo so considering that as it's wired.

  • WOW, that's a HELLA of a deal :):):)

  • I have been looking for a set of wheel rings for my Quad, who made those. they look nice

  • This is who I got them from and as I understand it the only game in town for the rear rings on a DDM quad kit. I'm guessing this is not the guys full time job or something similar and I get that. Just tell folks though if that's the case! I waited forever for the set of three that I won in that raffle, when I reached out to him about buying the rear rings for DDM kit, he said something about my rings hanging up in his garage collecting dust. Why not send to me or reach out if something was needed from me to be able to send? Dunno, was nervous as heck about giving him any money and though I might of thrown my $265 for rear rings out the window honestly. Abe though contacted him through FB after referring me and things got moving. Purchased on 3/15 - got them like 4/30 I think it was after Abe sent a few notes to see what was going on did things get moving. If you do order, hope you have a bs free experience!

  • Rear speaker grill accents. Easy and nice little touch!

For anyone who has a navy-blue sling this is the color I used (the reflection in the upper left corner is a flag). The cap in the picture does not match the color. It is extremely close to stock paint without the metalflake. Its epoxy so it has a gloss appearance right out of the can. Picture from Ebay.

  • Finally received and installed my F1 mats today. Pricey, but wow, completely transforms and upgrades the interior! I almost did the red stitching but decided to go all black instead.

lazarus , I have really been looking at those for my new Slingshot and called slingmods about the installation but sounded a little confusing? I was also curious if they would work with the pedal covers and I see yours looks great??

Pedal covers....his are on an loder Slingshot. Those wont work with the new ones. If ordering make sure they will fit your unit.

  • I don't know where I got the other steering wheel from as it was forever ago and when I had a different PC and has been hanging on the garage wall forever, but finally got around to putting it on the sling. Wanted to try a more normal circle wheel as I noticed this issue on long drives where my hand on the wheel kinda locks up. Fingers kinda get stuck in that position and then when I extend, feels like arthritis or what I think that would feel like lol. The ergonomics of that old wheel are just off for me. We'll see how this full circle one does on a long ride and see if it's me or the wheel! lol
