• I'm leaving tomorrow for Oktoberfest in Munich. I haven't ridden the SS all week and it's sadly just been sitting there because I don't have my motorcycle license yet and figured I should avoid the risk of getting arrested and missing my flight. Road test in the slingshot when I get back.

In the meantime, I am plotting the first mods. Reminder I have the 17 SL. I am still getting a feel for it so nothing too crazy yet. First which is what I planned from the beginning is swapping out the factory radio. I would prefer something with apple car play.

    1) which radio should I get?
    2) which dash kit should I get?
    3) what do I need to get with it? An adapter?
    4) what do I need to know about installing it? Will the factory USB port work that's in the glove?
    5) while I have the radio out what else should I install? Amp? Garage door opener? More speakers?

Cosmetic things aside, preliminarily I am thinking shocks and cold sir intake (I don't plan to spend money on a turbo at this moment...) but more on that later.

  • I'm going to the dealer on Saturday for a 17 Sl first mod for me is going to be the lug nut replacements and the transmission plate install over the hole that's their. Also I'm going to put down some floor mats, storage behind seats and the glove box liners, and the hood cushions in the engine bay. Enjoy the Modding @Locapacow

I talked to the dealer about the hood pads...they said Polaris made changes on the 17 model and the pads will cause issues...just FYI

    "Will Work for MODs!"

  • its all about time in the seat .... start with coil overs get a couple thousand miles on it and you'll know what to mod next ..... exhaust - then go where your heart and wallet take you

Coil overs was not my first mod even tough sooo many told me to and they were right

I'm not saying don't go with your heart, if those are the things you truly want, and you have the money to burn, but....dollar for dollar, those are not the mods that will make you the most comfortable in the new ride, even though they may look good or make you feel good. Ride, ride, ride. Go through the whole forum. See what other folks have done to their Slings. You're gonna spend more money on this thing eventually than you planned...don't start off with things you may eventually wish you hadn't.

Yea I've never updated my suspensions on any bike I've owned although all the forum guys suggested to. I kind of like practical mods that saved time and money in the long run such as the lug nuts and sun screen over the radio screen for clarity. I also would like to see floor mats that don't show footprints like I'm sure the black plastic will do. I wish weather tech made there tray liners for the slingshot? I will do a lot of reading here and hope I make the right purchases and not add to much to the for sale section. ;)

  • no matter what path you take it will be awesome because you'll make it yours

All of the sponsoring vendors have great products with tons of optons Alpha, DDMWorks, SlingshotOnly, SlingMods, and the goes on and on

I've never updated any of my bike suspensions either. At 20K, I felt the shocks were becoming an issue on the SS. I got some QA1's, dual adjustable ones. I can turn the knob by hand to set it to ride like a Lexus. I can dial it up, and have it more like a Camaro SS. My old shocks were not only sagging compared to the new ones, the two front stock ones weren't even the same height! They were about 1/4" off from each other, with one of them sagging 1/2" and the other one 1/4". Hahn Racecraft is about to have a sale on the shocks, and that's the time to buy if so inclined.

After changing to the QA1's, shocks on the SS will always be on my top 5 mods to do first list. There is just no comparison in the difference between stock and the QA1's in ride and handling.

  • You're in luck. Polaris covers your first mod at no cost to you at all. As long as you consider the rear reflectors falling off as a mod. That will probably happen before your first oil change. It has happened to a LOT of the slingshot owners. It makes you one of a select group
