I have a personal experience I can throw in about government on this subject. When Hurricane Rita hit here we evacuated and it was a month before we were allowed back in. That being said there were no hotels to be had in the State of Mississippi so long story short we would up in a hotel in Jonesboro, AR for a month (can’t say I found anything I liked there) almost full already from Katrina refugees. As you can imagine it didn’t take long before watching paint dry was exciting so anything to break up the monotony was well accepted. Well those of you that know my bride knows she is quite the social butterfly. Me -not so much😂. So I’m sitting in this hell hole room probably watching Days of Our Lives on one of the 10 stations you could get when my bride blasts in and said “Mr Bill - Guess what?? Huh - Somebody has is coming to shoot us and put us out of this misery? No you asshole (her pet name for me) we can get food stamps. My response was way less than positive telling her there was no way we were gonna get food stamps. Well we all know how persuasive our brides can be so I figured what the hell - I sure didn’t have anything better to do so I agreed telling my bride OK I’ll go but DO NOT FUDGE OR GUESS on any financial questions. So we go to the place and stand in a long line. As I stood there all I could think was “where the hell is a mass shooter when you need one”😂. So we finally make it into the little cubicle and my bride sat down giving our basic info. Then the question comes “how much do you have in cash, assets, etc? My bride looked up and the little gal quit typing looking at me also. I paused for a second and said “Fifty million dollars” (I wish) and to my utter amazement the clerk typed in the number not fazing her at all and we wound up walking out with over $800 in food stamps. (Bride used em - I was too embarrassed to climb out of my Mercedes and go in some place to buy food with food stamps. Now to my point. That was the day that I knew for sure that our government was just bat shit crazy for sure. I purposely gave that hugely inflated figure so that down the road some bureaucrat down the road would come back and say we cheated to get food stamps. Reality was they didn’t give a shit. I wound up getting around $1600 in food stamps before they cut me off. Now the government is like Oprah - “EVERYBODY GETS $1000”. Now I am not opposed to helping folks getting aid when it is needed - especially to eat. Now a lot of folks in the bar/restaurant business, small businesses, etc are virtually shut down by order of the government. Many survive on tips and the rest paycheck to paycheck so this is devastating to them thru no fault of their own. IF AND ONLY IF the government can target these folks I would not be opposed to aid for them even though nobody gives a crap about the boatload of money I just lost in the market. Here is my take on these “giveaways”. There are people that need help from time to time - especially in time of disaster but our government time and time again proven they cannot do it efficiently. Sadly Hurricane Katrina/Rita the government gave away the farm for political reasons to show they were “doing something” - like giving food stamps to a guy with 50 million dollars. The same thing is happening now. This virus is not anyone’s fault and our government was once again woefully unprepared for its effects. The government is/has been squandering our money, both Rep and Dem, running us like a freight train toward a financial cliff. Now they plan to throw a trillion dollars at this new problem. If the government was good at getting aid to the folks that REALLY NEED IT I would support it. IMO both Dem and Rep both want to feed us their political crap “look at what we are doing for you - vote for me”. All I can think about this “stimulus package” as the country moves ever closer to bankruptcy is “will it really help as described or will it be another broke down governmental boondoggle? Regretfully, given their track record, I think Jeff Bezos needs to start checking his mailbox - I’m sure he has a $1000 check on the way with a card from the government saying “we are here to help”.

Let me be clear - if the government wants to give me $5 - I WANT IT !! I been paying them for 40 years. The food stamp thing is just a pisser for me cause we have all seen it at one time or another - somebody in front of you in line at the grocery store and they pay with food stamps. Then you follow em out and they are putting their groceries in a brand new Cadillac.😡😡😡 BUT - from here on ALL the food stamps I get I will forward to you immediately!!

I would just say don’t write out your deposit slip just yet

OR they could simplify it and tell me to deduct $1000 from what I got to pay em April 15😩😩
