What do you carry

After illinois the last state and highest crime rate to have Conceal Carry. I just passed my 16 hr course. Now Waiting up to 4 months for a background check to Carry. Almost Time to put the bats, knives and bike chains away. Still keeping the Wasp Spray (20’ range) in the car counsel.

Okay, looking for a good revolver for carry, needs to be on the lighter side with a comfortable grip. Not sure the caliber because I have no clue how the recoil is, so all suggestions would be helpful

Ruger LCR in 38spc, very light, no hammer, very concealable and comfortable and shoots +P rounds @Bubblehead. +P rounds are what I carry. I only practice occasionally with +P, they aren't fun to shoot (ouchy)

And it matches my Sling. Makes me wish I didn't get one of the first ones.

Tom, I have several snubnose revolvers, I'll bring a couple out next time we come out your way. **However** - especially with revolvers, if you want "light," recoil ain't gonna be, at least not in anything halfway potent coming out of that barrel. You said "carry," so I assume you're talking about poking holes in bodies. If you're talking about holes in paper, that's another thing altogether. Let's talk.

I agree with @WOLF - that’s a fine choice (I have one also). If recoil is an issue due to medical reasons, 22 WMR will work if using quality ammo such as Hornady 45 gr Critical Defense (specifically designed for short barreled guns - 1000 fps out of a 1.8” barrel, 15” penetration in ballistic gel & 0.36” BRD! Sweet!). The LCR is also available in a 22 WMR but is only, unfortunately, 6 rounds. I have a no longer made Taurus 22 WMR revolver, 2” bbl, that has an 8-round cylinder...

Sorry I missed that part!

There is no such thing as recoil in a defensive situation. Recoil occurs at the range. You need range time to get comfortable with your weapon so choose a caliber that you are comfortable and competent with at the range. Accuracy will follow. Stopping power for the average crackhead starts at 9mm and goes up from there. I consider .380 less than 9mm despite the math, but that might be the sweet spot for a short barreled revolver.
Edit: I'm not sure why I said that - the only pistol I ever sold was a .380. I hated that thing - it wouldn't hit a beer can at 5 feet. But I have shot a couple impressively accurate ones in the last year.

I carry a .380 S&W Bodyguard with laser everywhere. I don't have it on me in the shower, or in bed, but it and my S&W Governor is within reach while I sleep. The Bodyguard is not likely as reliable as a wheel gun (revolver), but it is narrow and easily concealed and has not jammed on me or misfired even one time. Accurate for body mass at 30 feet, although I've kept 7 shots in a 9 inch pie pan at 60 feet. I occasionally carry one of my 1911's also. My "go to" is the AMT Stainless, because it's hard to get heavy wear on it. On special occasions, I take my
Custom Crimson Carry II, which is my very favorite handgun that I currently own.@Tripod, that is one sweet .22! I have a 9 shot also, but it's just an old H&R. I'll pick one of those up like yours if I ever run across one.

And I remember when Federal 550 22 HP was $12.95 a box when the 22's disappeared off of the market in two weeks time. Something happened and it was not the buying public like they tried to say. Now it is because the shooters are buying everything that they can find. At the time I was shooting 550 rounds per day minimun per day 7 days a week.
