What do you carry

  • @CDCAMEL6 that was funny! When I was a young guy (12) there was a place (General Store) I could get .22 LR in boxes of 50 or 100. Owner knew my parents, knew I had the rifle, knew I shot regularly. I had a paper route, and mowed yards. How times (and being responsible) have changed. I was more responsible at that age.... Well, I'll just not go there. This is not a politics thread, nor a personal responsibility thread. :)

I believe Indiana is the only state (or 1 of only a very few) that still do not allow carry out alcohol sales on Sunday. I was transferred here in a job back here in 1987. I would hear alot of people talk about "Sunday Beer". At first I thought it was some Hoosier rite of Holy Communion or something!!! Quickly realized that it meant- buy anything you may want to drink on Sunday on Saturday or you were driving to get it!!!! Back then you couldn't even buy alcohol in restaurants on Sunday!!! And yes, I have horribly derailed this thread!!!

That is what we all seem most gifted at.... derailment! I've lived not only in the state of Indiana all my life, I've lived in the same town! I've also been here long enough to know to get anything I might want at the house on Sunday, before said Sunday! Then again, I'm 8 miles from the state line on the Ohio side..... so not a big deal anyway!

  • As you can see by my profile I live in the socialist republic of California. As such my wife and I do not "carry" getting a permit to carry is very difficult and God forbid if we ever actually used a gun to protect ourselves out in public they would probably lock us up instead of the criminal.

Having said this my wife and I do have guns for both target shooting and home defense. My wife has a Hi-Point 9mm handgun and I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. They are not fancy or high end, but they are incredibly reliable and if someone gets past our 100 LB GSD they will get the job done. We also like the fact that we only need to keep a supply of one caliber of ammunition and as ammo goes 9mm is fairly abundant and inexpensive.

  • So, I actually have a serious question for a change. I've owned a Hi-Point pistol before, and it was absolutely NOT reliable, wouldn't feed or cycle for shit. Hoever, I've heard the carbines are quite a bit better....what is your experience with yours?

Same question here. At the shooting range here the Hi Point pistols were not very dependable and most of the people got rid of them.

  • I have CC carry classes taught in my basement a few times a year. When we show people proper stance while extending out with the arms the people that bring high points can't hold them up very long steady. It's even better the next day at our range when we're testing they are just heavy guns.

  • I'm not a fan of High Point. They are inexpensive, but not what I want. I agree they are heavy, and I've also seen them fail (dare I say it?) catastrophically. I've also seen them misfire, but they weren't my weapons so I can't say for sure why. I've shot Rock Island (.45 ACP only) and it wasn't bad for a less expensive one. I prefer the Ruger if going that route and caliber for not much more money.

For myself, I've reached the stage where I buy fewer, but more expensive handguns or guns in general that I want. Kimber was my most recent, but was over a year ago. It's nice, but I would likely have went a different route if I were to look today for the same handgun.

I love my carbine have never had a single issue or jam - damn thing just works. I have run winchester white box, Hydra-shok and a bunch of cheep russian bulk fmj through it without issue

  • My favorite gun to carry is the Sig Sauer p229 .40 S&W. Had always carried Glocks. Still love the Glocks, but like the way the Sigs feel and shoot. Always reliable too!!! Not to small and not to big, so easy to stash in a pocket or glovebox.
