Can anyone tell me why vinyl or anything else won’t stick to the black panels ?
Has anyone tried to sand them down and then install vinyl?
Vinyl don’t stick.

Given the area your are marking; my guess is it is not NEARLY smooth enough. Depending on what you are trying to stick, some type of adhesive may work or screwing in plexiglass or some kind of super smooth plastic to that rear end.

I tried sticking some decals to the lower portion right to the side of the side of the seat (to the left of your circle in the above photo, mine is unpainted) but couldn't get them to stick either. I even used alcohol and adhesion promoter.

I have decals on my "bucket", and apply them this way:
Clean the area with alcohol real well.
Apply a coat of "3M Primer 94" and let it dry.
Apply the decal, and rub it in real good.
Then use a hair dryer and heat up the decal.
(Heating helps the decal really adhere well)
When the decal has set for a few days, rub the area around the decal with alcohol, to get rid of the extra Primer 94
(Remember to rub from the decal out)
I believe you'll have good luck with this procedure.

YES, just tried the 3M primer. Worked great.😜

Then what was the "adhesion promoter" I used? Just bought from the local Autozone. Came in a spray can, don't remember the name. I think it was this:
-
If that don’t work the 3M primer DEFF works. But I’m now hearing that the primer will still be on the plastics if you remove vinyl.
-
There have been several guys who have 'smoothed' out and painted the 'black' plastic. Lots of time and effort to make in happen.

I just clean with alcohol really well and I guess vinyl brand and material matters... Some have fallen, but some have stayed on... Ymmv...

MiM question was for MiM sorry
Love his wheels
The rear is a 20 inch, with a 315 tire if I recall correctly. Think it's a 20x11 or 11.5?
The fronts are 18s. Mickey Thompson wheels. Typically on mustangs and camaros.
