2016 SL - Adding USB ports

Interesting all my text evaporated. Trying to add this to the center, between the seats... right where the center cigarette lighter socket is located. Anyone successful in removing the center cigarette lighter socket? Thank you!

I'm not sure what Slingshot you have but most of the have a USB port in the 'glove box' also there are some units that plug into the cig lighter that have USB adapters.

2016 SL.

Can't you use the USB ports in the glove box?
-
My Slingshot is a 2016...
-
Yes I can and do, but wanted to add more OUTSIDE the glovebox. This way friends, etc can charge without getting into my glovebox. Sometimes I carry personal things in there.. You know, things that go boom.

Am I correct in assuming the OP is trying to use a dual USP port for power and not USB input?(Edited to remove this comment as OP basically answered this question while I was posting this response.)Looking at this Parts Diagram (https://www.cheapcycleparts.co…al-components-all-options), the Slingshot's 2power ports (labeled 6 in the diagram) are simply push-in until the fingers on the side of the port lock inside the hole. Unfortunately, the power port isn't mentioned in the Service manual, nor is its position shown in any parts diagram. I'd imagine careful prying may get it out or if you want to avoid/minimize any damage to the hole, you may need to remove the rear deck cover and will hopefully be able to access the power port and push it out from behind. Good Luck!

It should work as long as the OP doesn't need to charge anything requiring a higher charging level. The only drawback to a plug like this is it may have a tendency to pull out of the power port every-time someone tries to remove the charging cord. That adapter is probably also not waterproof.

if it was me I would just use one of these...so you can still access the lighter plug Incase you want to plug in an air compressor or emergency light or other 12 v stuff...The receptacle is 25 amps........
-
I'm pretty happy with this, also displays battery voltage. Can control which of the 12v plugs are hot, the USB are always hot.

Good enough for me and my daily driver, although I understand why you would want to go legit and waterproof it.

in the cigarette lighter it will be upside down very little chance of getting wet...and if you get one with a flip cover....it can be sealed when not in use....

Thanks for the feedback. yeah I wanted to add the USB port to the current cig lighter in the center but have it pop out facing forward instead of down. Like I mentioned, it's to give my riders the ability to charge their phones, etc and I can keep my glove box locked shut.
I will mess around with it all. Thanks

...as long as it's not personal things that go "bzzzzzz".
