My helmet....the first time I wore it I had the visor on...it snapped my neck.....I don’t use it anymore....the chin guard is easily removable....
It’s actually a very light bicycle helmet ..

I have been riding since May of 1964 (A LOT OF MILES) I think I have had one big bug hit me in all of those years. 76,000 miles of driving with the SS and I have never had anything come into the cockpit, except for a bee every once in a while. No, I do not wear a helmet unless the law requires it. In all of my riding for the past 2 years I have not had a helmet on unless it was raining.
After we came back from a trip to states were helmets were not required we just could not bring ourselves to put them back on in California. Seven months later no issues and have had a state trooper help us on the side of the road once with a flat tire and he never mentioned it once. These are our helmets now . One for her one for me 🙂
Hummm guess I should consider changing my picture of me and the Co-Pilot now ...
ALWAYS have on the wrap a round shades though!
I know this is gunna ruffle a few feathers but we can ride a full day and narry get more than a bug or two around here. If at all.
In my defense I have ridden in the great state of Louisiana and any that have been or are there know what that's all about - love bugs are NO fun!
When traveling I bring along a 3/4 helmet with a tinted flip down face shield. Mostly for weather --- rain - cold. I usually have the helmet in the Slingshot when around home --- go place to keep it stored.
We are now looking for "more airy" helmets to use with the Grasshopper when it has it's top on. The top makekes it more safe from flying debris, plus cuts down the wind noise considerably, we don't want to invest in a second intercom set so what would be the recommendations be for allowing normal conversations?
Bill
I wear the PItboss - https://www.bellhelmets.com/powersports/helmets/pit-boss
I modified mine to have vents to flow inside the helmet to combat heat build-up.

That’s just silly !
Check this bad boy out!
Not sure if it’s DOT but it sure is original!
Or maybe a little goofy!
Yikes!

But just look at what else you have to put up with.
Yikes!
It's great to go up the Lake Michigan lakeshore (only 6 miles or so) and watch a 'light show' in the dark of night.
But just look at what else you have to put up with.
Seriously! 95% of the time mother nature is kind but when she gets pissed off around here you need to take cover
Unfortunately this is so true! I have posted this before but it is priceless

Around here, you just put the visored helmet on and ride.

Agreed. The visor on my helmet is not that large though, it is a bell half helmet for the motorcycle. Not wearing a helmet now on the SS I love the ball cap because of the visor. We usually head east on our rides and coming home to the west in the afternoons can be a real bitch!

Same problem here. I wear a beanie helmet beacuse it's required and have to put a ball cap under it to see. It looks even goofier than the helmet you posted.
