I will be surprised if cell service is not decimated throughout Florida - this is one badass storm
GOODBYE EVERYONE!

Since they keep changing the path, I am looking at the eye passing over the house, or being 30-40 miles from the eye.
I guess when it gets here I will be going "off grid" for a while.
Maybe my electric bill will drop some. -

so true Bill. The only way for me to stay in touch with my friends in Tortola is one of them has a SAT phone, and they must call me. The Satellite phone would not even work during the storm.

Maybe my electric bill will drop some. Please be safe sir. They say the eye(hurricane wind) is 70 miles in diameter. If 30 miles from the center is your best case, you will be in the eye.

Now I'm sorry for making fun of Mitch and his 100 year old phone. That may be the only phone that works when the hurricane hits. Mitch, do you have a spare I can borrow?

I think I a second 'vintage' phone I'm not using --- don't think snail-mail can get it there in time. Like Mitch I use the fine old phone as my communication device...

@funinthesun please stay safe. I think we all wish you would get the heck out of there. We will be praying for you and all of our Florida family. West coast of Florida will be getting the worse part of Irma according to latest track. Wishing you the best brother and keep posting if possible so we know you are ok.

I hope it is as harmless and just windy as some of you think it will be. Having no storm experience, I will believe you veterans. I personally would abandon Florida. I know some reference other storms and lighter inland wind. If the eye is 150miles wide, as wide as Florida, and the hurricane is 450 miles wide, does hitting land really slow it down?
Be safe my extended family, please reconsider "riding it out". Especially with 2 storms on Irmas 6. My parents left Davenport, Florida (almost as inland as possible) this morning to come to Michigan. I'm glad I won't have to worry about them.
Though they have ulterior motives for coming to Michigan now.

Even though Irma has shifted to the west, the Atlantic coast of Florida is not in the clear by any means. The eye of the storm mighy not be passing as close to us as originally thought but now we are on the "dirty side" of the storm with a much higher chance of tornadoes.
This is a monster storm.

I just got off the phone with WingShot. He came down to Sw. Florida fom Illinois to board up his house..well he just decided to pack up and haul ass as Irma has shifted to the west and will be right in his path. I hope he gets out in time.

He'll have no problem. He's riding a fast RED slingshot, so outrunning the storm is no biggie

Phil
I have a few - one is even heavy enough to anchor you down so that you do not blow away in the wind.
Be safe -
Wow.. I live an a double wide so boarding up wouldn't help one bit. I guess I would have to make a bid on the land where the house ended up.
All kidding aside Kenny please be careful - best of luck
