Great article - Thank you
I don't think they will get it all sorted out any time soon. We just have to hope that if they change the rules they don't make it retroactive. But for now we ride and smile!
I still don't think Elio will ever get into production

No one knows how to classify the damn thing.
-
Interesting that they compared the Slingshot to something that doesn't exist.
I always like the way elio puts out info on their vehicle when none of the claims have been tested. -
Interesting point @Red
The article basically sums up the situation where State and federal regulations are not keeping up with the market. Are they cars, are they motorcycles or are they a new class of vehicle? And what regulations should be defined and applied.
With some over zealous regulations, this emerging industry could quickly disappear.
Let's hope that's not the case.

this has been my fear from the start. Remember it's their job to protect us.
The bright side is that motorcycles have not been legislated out of existence yet. -
Some folks just like to makes everything difficult. If you need a MC endorsement get one, if you need a helmet wear one. If you want to run the HOV lane it's ok the VIN has motorcycle on it.
Pretty simple really. -
Hope they keep it a bike. I love the 36.00 insurance.

I just don't want added safety requirements to be added if the autocycle status becomes the standard. This will increase cost and decrease what makes these so different. At that point just buy a less expensive Miata.
The Elio may become the thorn in the side despite never making it to market. The lobbying done for the autocycle classification becomes a double edge knife for a product like the SlingShot.Time will tell but the basis of the report is that there is no standard and it's all over the board from a federal standpoint.
