With our family business in agriculture I would.urge you to research how many times that steak was touched between the rancher and your plate as well as the regulatory costs at each step. You will be surprised how it adds up and how it can in fact be reduced with policy changes. Transportation would be the first step.
....
That was my point, although I may not have said it correctly... The rancher or farmer does make a profit, but not as much as others along the chain do. As for regulation, sure that could help, but it does not seem to have ever helped in reducing the price from what it is to what it was.
Prices were a bit more steady during the last Donald run (inflation around 2%) , but they did not go down. Example: price per pound of regular beef from farm to retail in 2014 (Obummer) was about .35 cents farm to 4.45$ retail.., 2018 (the Donald) about .70 cents farm 5.75$ retail and in 2023 (Grandpa) about.72 cents farm to 6.93$ retail... The retail at the butcher shop is much higher in all those examples.. and will never go back to the 2014 level even is regulation is relaxed.
This thought is why I said that no matter who wins, prices will not go down..
