I’m just throwing this out for discussion.We know the most cases of this virus attacking our country is in California. As contagious as they say it is what happens if it begins to spread in the thousands of homeless community? It doesn’t matter what we do to keep it out of the country - it is already here!! What say you Edward Neal - you got skin in this game living in California ???
actually I think it has hit Washington State harder than CA - last I heard CA had its first death yesterday and Washington is up to 10 or so with one county asking all workers to stay home and everyone over 60 to stay inside 
I do suspect that if this is going to get out of hand our homeless will be where it really becomes a problem - lack of sanitation, poor health and the lack of good mental reasoning could easily allow it to get out of control
For us personally with my wife working in a casino as she does and the exposure to large numbers of people that comes with being a dealer I do worry that she is more exposed to the chance of colds. the flu, and other viruses, but at this point from the numbers I have seen this thing is not even as deadly as the flu - I think the media is making this a much bigger deal than it needs to be (perhaps in the hope it will hurt Trump)
Anyway I am not stressing about it - out here in the desert we more isolated also we are both in good health and I suspect even if we were to get it that we would be just fine

Washington state is really ground zero for the US spread. California will be a humanitarian disaster when it hits the homeless communities. Here's a thinker; will Mexico close the boarder from CA to slow transmission?

Our university has students studying overseas who are even now being recalled. Students are supposed to "self-quarantine" for 14 days after they come home, then join other classes already in progress. MANY universities are doing this! The university says: No student should suffer academically because of an outbreak. I say: No university wants to be on the hook to provide classes already paid for and no one wants to give up capacity next semester for paying customers! Billions on the line!
Questions:
1. Will medical assessment when student arrives home be effective?
2. Will self-quarantine be effective (I strongly suspect NOT!)
3. Will 14 days be enough?
4. Will we get cases in our university campuses and towns? (I believe we will.)
I think the cat is already out of the bag - - I think it is very likely there are already people out and walking among us who are contagious with this and do not yet know it. - - I fully expect this thing to spread across the country / world and to be as common as the flu - - the big question is will it be any more deadly than the flu?
It is just speculation on my part, but I expect that in modern countries with good sanitation and modern medical facilities that this will end up not being a big deal - - if it really gets out of hand I suspect it will be in the less developed / third world countries and/or in isolated communities like the homeless communities of the more modern countries.
of course this is just my uneducated guess so in the end only time will tell
as to "self-quarantine" - - - its a joke, people have already been caught trying to get out of mandatory quarantine even here in CA at March airbase where one of the first planes evacuating people out of China landed they caught a guy trying to sneak out - you know damn well that people will always decide the rule is only for everyone else and not for them - - I am not a gambler, but that is something I would be willing to bet on!!

Back in 2006 there was a story about a group of Chinese virologists who where working in a Canadian Government lab studying a strain of genetically altered virus supplied by Denmark. These same Chinese fellers where suspected of smuggling samples and data out of the Canadian lab back to their home country. Specifically to the Chinese Government lab in Wuhan.
A short time later came SARS, MERS, H1n1, and now COVID-19 caused by the originating virus SARS-CoV-2 .. yup the Corona virus is a variant of SARS and guess what other virus it is closely related with. I'll give you one guess eh....Also we now know COVID-19 has two separate mutations identified. The 'S" variant which is the older or ancestral version which is not as aggressive and more common and the new mutation the "L" variant which is what caused the outbreak in Wuhan and deaths all over the globe. A study released a couple days ago of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicated the type L and type S COVID-19 viruses are well defined by two single-nucleotide polymorphisms that show nearly complete linkage across the viral strains sequenced to date.
