This is insane. A section of I-85 heading out of Atlanta has collapsible due to a huge fire under the bridge. This section of interstate is one, if not the heaviest traveled section through Atlanta. All lanes north and south will be closed minimum for 30 days. This is going to screw things up big time here...

Just saw this on the web.
Atlanta I-85 fire or Atlanta I-85 collapse -
if your heading south for spring break go around Atlanta..... It's going to be a miserable commute tomorrow. I really hope a lot of people work from home tomorrow.

Holy Crap!!! I can't imagine how bad that is going to screw things up down there....

very true. The fire department pulled back before it collapsed. They even called in two large foam pumpers from Harstfield international Airport.
Large PVC pipes were stored under the overpass. That's what was on fire. They haven't stated what caused it to start. -
Hope it's back open in time for Maggie Valley
-
best part is my wife lands at Harstfield in 15 minutes. Lucky she is not stuck as that is the way she would have taken home. It's still going to be a long drive home tonight.

Hope it's back open in time for Maggie Valley
you can get around it easy.... Take 285 east then back up.
-
I usually end up taking I-95 up to I-26 to avoid Atlanta completely, unless the weather dictates differently
-
We had something similar in Bridgeport on 95 years ago. Messed up everything

First time I've ever heard 285 described as easy!
